So you're telling me that all my listening tests are rendered foo because you say so?

Nope..... If youve heard change Martin or percieved youve heard change, for better or worse, then so be it. But...... Ive also done listening tests and heard fuk all worthwile improvements. Thus it is with much shaking of head, gnashing of teeth and smirking, I declare it FOO. And the higher the price of said rip off fuses the greater the FOO. Perhaps your system is more revealing than mine...!!!

We don't have any fuses in plugs to worry about. If we did, I very much doubt there would be any difference that I could hear.
But then I have been a cynic for considerably longer than Jammy.
I can accept that different people may have different hearing equipment but, as ever, find the marketing of bits of wire and mains fuses as 'life changing' events just a little hard to swallow.
I might even consider the possibility of there being a god if it wasn't for the evangelists telling me to repent for all the sins I wish I had committed.

I must admit that I'm not interested in spending that much on a fuse but I would be interested in getting shot of the things altogether. After all if the fuse is such a weak link, it's removal should be better than its enhancement.
Can I ask anyone more clued up than myself what my options are? Here's my typical setup.
House has typical ring main setup which was only installed 2009 so has those trip switch things on every sockets or lighting ring.
Systems up and downstairs have separate 13amp 3 pin plugs going into a Merlin tarantula 6 way mians block. This is switched but doesn't appear to have its own fuse, although I could be wrong.
I would be happy to change the mains block for something else as long as it was something practical and modestly priced (not balanced or regen or anything else that costs hundreds). Likewise the plugs and fuses.
I was given a solid fuse blank thingy and will buy more if I can find them as long as they aren't daft money. I would t be averse to changing to 15 amp plugs and socket if they are easily available.
Basically, if its cheap, safe and gets rid of fuses I'm up for it. Any suggestions?

Euro or US type plugs with no fuses at all Loses a degree of flexibility If you ever had a fire and insurance claim the inspector could take that as a reason not to pay, maybe

I figured as much. They are still legal in the UK, I believe. I'm not entirely sure but I believe the modern UK mains will trip before a fuse blows. The plugs are certainly cheaper than I thought.

If you are connecting to a ring main you need at least one 13 amp fused plug. Could use Schuko plugs into an extension block or BMU. If you have a radial spur from the fuse box you could use the old 15 amp round pin plugs which are still available. BTW NVA will do a BMU with 15 amp round pin if required so you can have a complete fuse free system. Can't say if it will make a vast improvement or not. More likely to make a difference than £57 foo fuses.
I think these expensive fuses are easy money for some retailers - their primary reason for stocking them. I notice one is promoting elsewhere encouraged by this thread no doubt. The fact he refers to his customers as 'punters' says it all for me. Certainly taking a gamble on these. Perhaps £57 on a horse would make more sense?

Thanks for that. I'm really not in the market for spending hundreds on a BMU but I will likely try getting shot of fuses with 15 amp or Schuko.
A lot of my liking for hifi is the iconic looks and design. Mains conditioners , BMUs and the like are just pig ugly annoyances that further complicate wiring arrangements and siting needs AFAIC. As such, they would seriously detract from my enjoyment before I even switched them on. Sorry to anyone who feels differently, I'm just saying how I feel about them and why I'd never be interesed in one.
As a start, I will try the single fuse blank I have just to see if it does anything. I've had it about two years and never bothered to try it, so maybe it's time.

I've got fuses in my plugs and they work really well, I can hear music when I use them, but it stops when I take them out - I like fuses

Just to avoid confusion, "radial spur" is a misnomer. A radial circuit is a single cable from your CU to a socket on the wall. A spur is a single cable to a socket, the cable being tapped from an existing ring circuit.

The reason these need to be differentiated is that different laws will apply re. fusing depending on which is used.

Not sure where the fuse fans are sourcing theirs from but I found www.analogueseduction.net/search/for/fuse/page/1/ have a wider selection than the possibly more obvious vendor who calls his customers punters. I have used Analogue Seduction for a wide range of things including my Sennheiser HD800 and I just realised how much I have had from them in the last couple of years. I tried a couple of cheaper ones to see what if anything they did. The jury is still out on those.

Personally, I think that's your answer right there! If you look at the current legislation on this, 15A round pin plugs are allowed provided they are fused. In the UK, there has to be at least one fused mains plug connection to a ring main. What you do between that fused connection and your kit is entirely up to you.

Here's a little reminder that the mains is not to be messed with by anyone who doesn't know exactly what they are doing. And actually, also by a hell of a lot of people who think they know what they are doing. There is nothing you can do that will make your system sound better from the inside of a box that's buried six feet under, so please don't make this your last 'upgrade'.

I'm not sure how helpful that is. 15 amp round pin plugs are not fused per se which actually is the attraction here. Also, I'm not sure we are talking about connection to a ring main but rather a radial (note that is not a spur which is a lead off from a ring circuit) feed direct from the consumer unit which is where the fuse/trip resides.

I've been thinking: wouldn't a Hydra style lead do the same thing (leave only one fuse in the chain) ? If all I'm trying to do is get shot of un-necessary fuses, wouldn't this be a neater solution?
