Has anyone installed their own ethernet cable? A little more complicated than plug and play.
Have two runs already, but looking to see if I can install and terminate a 10m run to my system. Something like Supra Cat8 for around £60 is a possibility.

I do it at work. Installing cable is straightforward, terminating isn't. Don't even try it unless you have the right tools for the job, and the correct RJ45 plugs or back plates.. Something like this...

What Martin said, and even if you buy the correct tools, practice, practice, practice, on some odds and ends of cable until you're confident.

I saw my IT guy doing it many years ago and realised it was not for me

I hear you muted, but clear.
Not worth attempting, unless I've practiced.

You could do the installation and have a cable engineer come and terminate the ends. He should have a Fluke or similar cable tester to ensure that everything works. Maybe an hour's work?

I found terminating the cables can be pretty easy if you use tooless connectors like these: Just found this amazing item on AliExpress. It’s ok terminating a few after some practice, but very time consuming stripping and terminating large numbers.

Late incoming: These toolless/toolfree connectors are also called field termination i.e. they are expressly designed so they can be terminated out in the field without a nice clean bench etc. What I like about them (not having used them yet, but I do have some here) is the purposeful chunky look, as admired and adopted by a manufacturer or two. For example, this is a snip at £3,430 www.futureshop.co.uk/nordost-valhalla-2-ethernet-cable
