Just carry on working until August for me, when I will finally retire. It can't come soon enough, I am tired of working and tired of the commute.
Then cancel everything I won't need any more like professional memberships, union subs and other costs.
After that, I will get a skip delivered and start the long task of clearing out everything we won't want to take with us when we move in 2025. Reduction will be the name of the game.

Sorry to hear there is still a stretch of months before retirement. My mother retires this month on 12/29/23. She's been saying for a year that if she could quit yesterday she would. She's tired of it. And she's worked hard all of these years at IRS so I don't blame her.
My plans for 2024 are to snowboard as often as possible and also to learn a somewhat new and highly touted 3d modeling software called Fusion 360. Both My boss and I use Mastercam (I'm not good at it but I can technically complete tasks/programs to make physical parts with later).
Just before I met my boss I met another guy at a large CNC machining company who invited me into his office to show how much time Fusion 360 saves compared to when making programs using the industry standard MasterCam.
So now I will learn Fusion 360 in order to teach him enough for him to then go much further with it and possibly save time/money at his small company that I work at.

My ambitions for 2024 are to keep placing one foot in front of the other, but only when I intend to, and to breathe with as much regularity as I can muster.

I need to continue working on my health.
Getting back to weekly yoga is going to be absolutely fantastic. The physical and mental benefits can be profound for me.
More travel. I would dearly love to return to Canada next year and explore the west of the country. Another couple of European city breaks with concerts will be obligatory.

Body and mind are to be kept as is.
I'll be gently restoring and getting working a very nice Mora Clock I got for wife's birthday. She's always wanted one... They are very Swedish. It's a secret so it's stored at my mum's place. Her birthday is not until May, so plenty of time.
Also got an outside kitchen planned.
Will be using the Ooni Pizza oven more, when the weather improves.

I am off to Ghana in January to meet my first grandchild. Whilst there I also hope to do some beach fishing. I shipped rods etc in November and they have arrived at the other end in one piece. I’m supposed to retire in June, but I’m not convinced that I’m going to be able to afford packing things in just yet.

Try and get fitter! No seriously I have some plans requiring a certain level of fitness, and before I make anything concrete I need to see if I can reach a certain level of fitness and maintain it. I will start by joining the local gym, start slowly at first and a gradually build up to inprove muscle tone and my overall stamina. I may join the local pilates classes if they will have me, tend to be full of older ladies. I think it will take at least 6 months but I am hopeful that I will succeed, whatever the out come I should be better for it.

There is no 'try' there is only do or not do Seriously, go for it, bit at a time Don't bother with the gym. A yoga or pilates class is a good place to start and you can copy the moves and practise every day - recommended if you have a damaged body like mine It is doable and you can look forward to it

Update: Well I got here yesterday at my destination in Africa. Coming from South America decades ago it was a bit of a shock to find that cultural traditions here are closely aligned with what I remember about where I came from. The hoards of airport workers wandering about aimlessly was a lesson in an overcrowded workplace. Then there was the way people with connections are collected at the airport. In the UK that happens after you get through Customs. Here you get met after you get off the plane. Your guide takes you through a long line of security. I reckon my passport got looked at by at least 7 different people. Customs was no less funny. I got asked if I had any electronic equipment and my wife got asked if she got any perfumes. I reckon it was on the personal shopping list of the female Customs official. Anyway, or guide said something to her, and we were let go. The journey to my son’s place was no less a reminder of my past experiences. The sun had already gone down, so I could detect from afar the flickering lights from police vehicles. There were at least 5 along the short route from the airport. Apparently, these are police shakedowns dresses up as roadblocks to thwart criminals at night. In reality they are there to shakedown arrivals from the airport. So that’s day one. Can’t wait to see what next.

Wow, I do remember something not quite as bad when I arrived in Windhoek, Namibia. The airport was rather haphazard but I, too, had a friend picking me up which helped greatly with getting through the process. Subsequent driving was fine, including up through the Namib desert to the Etosha Pan. We did take necessary precautions, though, such as water and spare petrol.
One thing I do remember as a lesson: remember to reconfirm your flight before returning. They seem to treat any return ticket as a vague promise and you can get kicked off a flight quite easily. There are not too many flights home (one per day in my case) so make sure you get on it!

The return flight is probably going to be the easy part. My son got contacts inside the local BA office. Our flight took off just as snow started falling on the runway of Heathrow. Over here it’s 42degrees on the temperature gauge on the wall in our bedroom.
