It's why it's called a hobby! I like to move power cords around to different components to hear if there are improvements in the imaging, bass, soundstage, etc. Always a quest to grasp that audio nirvana......  |

Back to cables, I have only ever auditioned one "high end" speaker cable - it was one of Colin's EWA designs that I had on demo in my old analogue system. It changed the presentation quite radically and also changed my perception of what cables can do. At some point I would like to try them again in my now fully digital system and see what they can achieve.

Thinking back a while
I tried out some different speaker cables
Made no difference at all
Turned out later the system couldn't do any better and better cables eventually took their place in the improved system
This may well happen to others
Super duper cables - no difference, System not good enough

Hmm, words are important it's how we understand what we mean. Yes, I agree, but I don't argue with people who use quasi-religious expressions without thinking about them, although I know Mike was simply quoting a common expression. To "believe in" something is having faith without any supporting evidence. I don't "believe in" cables any more than I believe in sky gods, I have my own evidence from having tried cables for myself. It's the same with fuses, grounding boxes, vibration control, mains treatment, noise reduction. They don't need any faith on my part, it's all evidenced empirically. All I did with each one is conduct an initial trial with an open mind. This is why, when I'm confronted with someone who says "I don't believe that fuses make a difference" I suggest that they try one. Only then can they have an opinion which will not require belief one way or the other. |

As you and I well know, John, everything matters and just about every change we make is audible whether we like it or not! It's a recipe for frustration, and it takes some dedication to get everything working the way we want it. Since our systems are all different, there is no magic recipe that applies to all. |

This is where the subject diversifies into just more than yeah and na sayers, you have a few more groups Audiphiles and FOMO's both of which are a dream for many retailers I have been told. Mind you they are quite a few which combine both traits now that is quite scary!
