SteveC I really like Christine Collister and saw her live at the Town & Country Club a lifetime ago when she was performing with Clive Gregson.

Image 13 by , on Flickr Al Jarreu's artistic style is not everyone's cup of tea, but the list of contributors on this album is very impressive and for sound quality alone, it's one of the best 'live' albums I have heard! Even if you hate The Sound of Music, check out the rack "Favourite Things!"

Deep Purple - Made in Japan Don't know why, just like it.
Generally there are few live performances / recordings thereof that really do it for me.
Nils L Acoustic Live is not bad though. Obvious likes are Keith Don't Go, and Man In The Moon.

SteveC I really like Christine Collister and saw her live at the Town & Country Club a lifetime ago when she was performing with Clive Gregson. Martin I was introduced to that album "Christine Collister Live" by the late Howard Popeck. It was a favourite of his and it prompted me to investigate and collect her catalogue of CD's as well as a couple of vinyl albums, with Clive Gregson. Looking at the cover notes just now, I see it was recorded direct to DAT at a concert at The Gaity Theatre, Douglas, Isle of Man in 1994. I too saw her live in solo concert at Tower Arts Centre, Winchester about twenty years ago. During the intermission, she set up her stall of CD's in the foyer and happily chatted with fans, before resuming the second half of her act. As well as a fine musician, she is also very witty and told some hilarious stories about her origins and early life on the Isle of Man.

Thank you for all the proposed live albums so far. I have listened to most of them and many of them do not meet my criterion, that of transporting me to the concert. They either seem to suffer from too much cleaning up (e.g. the Bruce Springsteen) or they are rough recordings lacking realistic impact or bass (Colosseum).
These are superb (as well as the three in my o/p): Kraftwerk - Minimum-Maximum Pat Metheny Group Derrin Nauendorf
Please do keep them coming and I'll build up a list of the good ones.

There was a time when I wasn't a fan of live albums, preferring the perfection of a studio album. At some point sanity prevailed.
My top 3. I was plugging the top one, a loan voice in the wilderness, back when I was at AOS many moons ago now, after I heard the VHS tape. It will always be top of my list:
Roy Orbison: A Black And White Night
Zucchero: Live In Italy
Louis Prima/Keely Smith: Live From Las Vegas

There was a time when I wasn't a fan of live albums, preferring the perfection of a studio album. At some point sanity prevailed. Me too. I changed my preference around the time that my system started sounding really superb with live albums. I do agree that, in many cases, studio albums are preferable and, in a few cases, some bands are just not very good live.

I'd never see anything like this regarding a recording that feels like being at a concert until a friend invited me over for beers and to watch this. Dave Matthews with Tim Reynolds. 'Ehee' at 1:10:21 is truly magical and sounds like being there. www.youtube.com/live/GNmJoLyivIc?si=U5zSGQSj9Fr8NTik
