Well I could go on for a long time about this, but I'll keep it short.
It's a great song It's a John Lennon song . . . it's NOT a Beatles song It's a nice tribute It's had the beejeezus thrashed out of it regarding the production It sounds nothing like a Beatles song They (Paul) should have done one of two things IMO . . 1. either left it alone 2. restored it faithfully and sparsely as a John Lennon song
It's like finding a half finished Rembrandt, painting in the bits missing using modern techniques an AI and then releasing it to the world as a Rembrandt.
I'll get my coat as I'm probably on my own here.

I somewhat agree with you, but it is what it is. I would think there would be hundreds of unfinished Beatles songs that got shelved. Would like to hear those finished - when all the guys were alive and thriving! The song "Real Love" was the last song I thought was done well...

Is it a great song? It’s a bit meh to me, it would be a decent filler on an album. It could be later Beatles but yes more of a Lennon track.

I have to admit, my first thought was "Travelling Wilburys".
The problem was, the original recording was simply John playing piano and singing on a cassette. It's only very recently, due to (Sir) Peter Jackson's technology that they've been able to separate the vocals from the piano, enabling them to make something of it. If anything, it sounds (to me anyway) a bit like like John singing a post-Beatles song written with George Harrison. I'm surprised Giles Martin (and Macca) did what they did to it, which was too much.
I'd like to hear a remix with the vocals "thinned out" a bit (i.e. don't drown it in harmony overdubs) and the orchestra replaced with a simple string quintet.

I'm not impressed "It sounds nothing like a Beatles song" but does sound like Lennon though Yoko is missing I hope the production values are genuine not just a cash cow.

It sounds nothing like a Beatles song That was my first thought when hearing it. I haven't changed my mind.

The production is very odd, and the song is dreary as hell. It adds nothing to the Beatles legacy. Shame.
