I thought this might be a fun thread for people to get involved in This is when an artist or band has never equalled their first album. If you can keep your list to 3 so it gives others a chance to participate
1 Boston The other albums are nowhere close to the first album. A classic in its time
2 Tracy Chapman A great songwriter but the first album just has a certain magic to it
3 Van Halen 1st What a way to enter the music scene and they never really equalled it

Black Sabbath The greatest first album I can think of
Alt-J: An Awesome Wave Excellent, later releases don't come close to the power of this unique music
Low: I Could Live In Hope A man, a woman and beautiful music making

Langgaard 1st symphony. It's very good, way better than the further 15 that followed imo. He got a bit weird. I'm following the spirit of the thread, rather than the precise definition.

Norah Jones: Come Away With Me A new, very high quality, cool album never beaten by her
Sade: Diamond Life Ditto as above

I guess "Tubular Bells" by Mike Oldfield should be in that list!

Boston The other albums are nowhere close to the first album. A classic in its time Their "Greatest Hits" is worth a look. It's got five of the eight tracks from their first album, some choice cuts, including "Amanda," (which I've always loved) from their other albums, and five unreleased (at the time) tracks.

1. Pearl Jam - Ten is a top tenner in my all time list , great album . never bettered .
2. Roxy Music - Roxy Music
3. King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King , to be fair I don't think they ever tried to top ITCOTKK , they went in other directions , not a fan of other albums but love the first .

On first listening I can hear some great songs and a few so-so songs, but I really need to be able to hear the album on the main system to make a meaningful assessment. The legendary production quality is still quite something.

I don't think Heart have made a better album than Dreamboat Annie.
