live.staticflickr.com/65535/53156351760_dc492e8f0b_w.jpgI found this band on a skateboarding video when I was probably 10 years old. My fiends and I all skated and it was everything. We'd occasionally skate with the older guys and were introduced to their music. Bands like The Dead Kennedys, Pixies, Dinosaur Jr, Melvins, Sam Black Church, etc. None of them stuck for me but Jane's Addiction did. They became my thing in a big way. They have some good albums and some good side projects. Anybody recall that song 'Pets' from Porno For Pyros? Perry Farrell sings for them and Jane's Addiction. I think this is a good album all the way through but the track 'Three Days' is something special. The track right after it is the perfect compliment to Three Days. Three Days may be the first time I ever connected so profoundly with music. And I'm so happy that the music I listen to today still reaches me the way Jane's Addiction did. I'm freaking mad about my music these days and and would be seen as a mental patient if people knew how often I listen to my favorite groups, tracks, albums and actually work at discovering new music. Let's see what people think of this one. Apologies for the asenine inability still to post a photo in a thread.

I like the music but always found the vocals not to my liking. I am not sure if I will still have the same issues

It's not doing it for me but I'll give it another try.
By the way, this thread needs a poll to be setup.

Nope. Going to have to come back to this one. My sinuses are currently in revolt, and anything loud just makes my permanently aching head even worse.

Fair enough, Paul. Wow I just had sinus surgery recently and hoping to not have another one.
You mentioned you've had it. Sorry to hear it's acting up again I just met a guy delivering something to my workplace who said he had 5 sinus surgeries and he said because of covid they couldn't give him anesthetic for that or for a bladder surgery of some kind. Doesn't make any sense to me but who knows maybe it's true.

Totally fair, Martin. Thanks for trying it btw. I'm actually the same way in that regard usually, especially with live performances. I can't listen to endless lead work that instead of suiting the song just dominates it.
Bit of a random note here regarding this band Jane's Addiction. It occurred to me today that I found this band and this album before I even knew that different genres of music exist. I guess I thought it was just all variations on a sound. Or maybe that's what's music genres are.
It's interesting to know that I've been on a heavy music trip in a big way ever since I got that first taste of having a favorite band. I'd find any excuse to play an album. Cleaning the house was the best way for me back then because my attention would be divided and if something in a new album caught my attention I'd rewind back to it. I still do that to this day when streaming my Playlists.

Btw guys I do hope truly that each and every one of you started the track 'Three Days' from the beginning and not from that sampler there.
I will trust that is what happened here on this day.

I bought this album when it was released. The work of the rhythm section is the thing that stands out for me. That, and the dog barking at the beginning of 'Been caught stealing', which used to make our Brittany spaniel, Merlot, go absolutely crazy.
Looking forward to playing it again, later this week.

Haha wow Chris. Ye this album had a lot of charm on cassette. Beautiful artwork and side B was my favorite. This is the first time I can ever remember discussing with other people this album. To hear an anecdote that the dog from 'Been Caught Stealing' used to triggers somebody's dog is funny.
Man, I used to think Perry Farrell was like a walking statue he just looked striking.
You know I actually forgot about this:
Their track called 'Ted...Just Admit It' appears in the film Natural Born Killers.

That's from 'Nothing's shocking' isn't it? I always thought that ‘Three Days’ from 'Ritual de lo Habitual' (this month's choice) was it's natural successor/companion, given the really dark nature of the lyrics. Those boys have got troubled minds!

Ye Chris it's pretty wild, and yup it is from Nothing's Shocking.
It's wild though how Three Days goes from being about a threesome to changing tone and subject to being about hunters and gatherers in tribes ages ago.
But that song 'Then She Did' is so perfect after 'Three Days' that it took me a while to realize they are different tracks. The last 4 tracks of this album imo are stellar.
No idea which genre they belong to...but wow. 1:36 of this track and a lot of this album sounds actually like a special moment in recording music history. Is there a 6/5 option in the voting scale? I'll see if I can pull some strings to compensate for 2nd half of album. For now I'll vote 4/5 because the first half of album is not as solid imo.

I gave it a 4/5 after a couple of listens. I think John's mention of the vocals not being to his taste probably hits on the reason why the band weren't bigger than they were. Perry Farrell's voice is much of the reason why they stand out as being a little different though. A Marmite sound, I suppose.

A middling 3 for me. It's not doing a lot for me, and it hasn't made me curious to seek out more of their stuff.

Am I wrong about this? I feel like I've witnessed brilliance in the form of music here. Vocals are ok, lyrics are ok to good but the changes/permutations the songs go through seem profound and meaningful and just actually impressive. It's incredible for example on this track called 'Then She Did'.
So, I've done some reading about this band and unearthed some things I'd forgotten long ago like they have very unique live performances with incredible stage presence and musicianship. They are the ones responsible for starting something called The Lollapalooza tour if anyone remembers that. Somebody mentioned seeing them live and they opened with a cover of 'Sympathy For The Devil' that was apparently stunning to behold.
Tbh I feel like the 2nd half of the album is magic while the first half is irritating upon first few listens. But the 2nd half could have been its own EP I think.
