"I don't dislike him ...
I dislike his recordings because they suck."

He's wonderfully scathing when he wants to be.
All I know is that Wang is a performer of acknowledged enormous talent. Makela... isn't. Perhaps she broke up with him because his recordings suck?

Lol.
It will be difficult for him to sustain these top level orchestral appointments without a recording career to match.
But he's still a very young guy who has charisma on the podium - I've seen him on Arte TV with the Orchestre de Paris and enjoyed the performance. Time will tell!
And we get to see his Rite of Spring later this year, the live performances of which have been very well received from what I have read.

Let's hope. I adore the Rite and hope he doesn't muck it up. Then I get to tell Ruth how good it was

DH on the Roth sexting scandal and talking a lot of sense on this sorry affair.

He explains it well, a tricky situation.
Roth is another maestro elevated to demigod status. The system is at fault.

Interesting. I've not listened to the Barshai and will do so soon.
Hurwitz then names my favourite recording, the Haitink with the Concertgebouw, simply magnificent (or shockingly fabulous, as he says).

I picked up Barshai's Mahler 5 & 10 on a recommendation, and was well rewarded. Even better, they are twinned on a 2CD set released on the budget "Brilliant Classics" label. The mastering engineer for both was Bernie Grundman, so quality is assured.
