The Heart of Saturday Night, Small Change, and Heartattack and Vine, would easily get a place in the upper reaches of my top 100, were I ever stupid enough to sit down and try to formulate such a list. Ahh Mr Waits an acquired taste if ever there was one . Me I love him and enjoy the look on people's faces if you play a track . You can tell by the look on their face they are thinking is this a joke ? Linda my wife has a very good voice and sings in a female accapella group . First time I played Tom she was horrified and asked what hell is that noise . Over time while Linda will never be a fan there has been a grudging admiration for his phrasing . Down Town Train is a lovely song and any of the trilogy linked are excellent listens . Along with Don Van Vliet another very marmite voice they break the thread I have of loving sweet voices . If you want to hear something a little left field (of Tom Waits ?) Then listen to an album Grapefruit Moon by Southside Johnny , Waits songs as swing numbers including a duet with Tom himself , the three tenors it is not but it is wonderful .

There's a Southside Johnny track in that Tidal playlist of " Tom Waits' Best Covers" I posted earlier in this thread, along with loads more great songs. |
