New set up. Playing local FM channels through my Receiver , and getting a lot of static on some stations, not so much on others . One local FM station will not play . what are my options. Would I benefit from installing an antenna of some sort, perhaps out side.

What sort of antenna do you have indoors at the moment? What type of connector is on the rear of the tuner?

It does sound like a lack of adequate signal. Perhaps investigate an outdoor aerial as indoor ones don't generally pull a good signal and are prone to picking up interference.

I'd advise trying the best indoor solution(s) first before thinking about raising a pole in the garden to carry an outdoor mast header. There's cable to run into the house, a decent depth footing to be dug to sink the pole in concrete, unless you want it blowing over on a regular basis. Think of it needing the same sort of base as one of those "whirly" washing lines, in fact. Then there's the neighbours, if you have them, and worse case scenario, planning permission. Try the indoor solutions first.

Well... yes I agree, but most aerials are attached to a short 'L' pole on the side of the house or a chimney.

Cheap DIY Solution for FM, or outdoors, you can use cheap copper wire, or plumbers tubing, you basically need to construct a square, 30" on each side,at the bottom, using block conectors, using 75ohm Coax connect positive to one side, negative to the other side. You will find, this antenna will give you great nulls, for little outlay. lt's what l use, when l go DXing on hill tops.

Hi slinger. thanks for replying . there is a rectangle plastic loop type of ant that comes with the receiver. Just this morning I was looking out the patio doors ( Aluminum framed) and when my body came close to the metal the interference elevated . I'm mystified why one of my local stations doesn't come in at all. I am presently looking for an ext. antenna to see if that helps. I just noticed that the ant says "AM loop Antenna" Is there a FM version?

There should be an FM antenna which is likely to be a 'T' shaped wire aerial. The AM antenna won't help with FM.

Something like this www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08T1SCFHQ/ or this www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07MDZ3VK6/ would be a good place to start, depending on the connection on the rear of your tuner. It should be marked "antenna" or "FM 75Ω", or something similar . It should look something like this... On some vintage models it might simply be two screw terminals though.
