Brooke Coombe - Black is the New Goldopen.qobuz.com/album/ezactedc2kifcI wanted to bring something new to the album choice this month. This is Brooke Combe's first album released earlier this year. From Edinburgh she has won Best Female Breakthrough artists at the 2021 Scottish Music Awards, she is a singer-singer writer and has a mature voice. In my view the album is full of good tracks, obviously I would say that as it is my choice. Nice use of reverb throughout, if you like that kind of thing, and well recorded. Probably not surprising, I find the weakest track on the album is actually the one she released as a single, 'Miss Me Now', all a bit non-descript compared to the other tracks. Enjoy!

I gave it a quick go, but it's really not my thing, so I won't vote as I didn't listen to it all, just skipped through.
Agree about Miss Me Now too, but understand why it was a single as it's the most poppy mainstream song on the album, which is probably why we don't like it!

Not bad, especially as I'm particular about female vocals More listening required
I'll be back

Powerful voice, solid production. Very compressed recording which makes the peaks unpleasant. Made for the ear bud generation.
I think she has promise. Give her Joss Stone's production values and see how far she goes.

Pretty good and the vocals have not turned me away. Cool voice in fact. Will be interesting to see where this goes. Will vote after a few more listens.

When I first listened to the opening tracks I could not put my finger on who the vocals reminded me of and then I realised it is Elles Bailey mixed with some Joss Stone. There is something else in the voice as well which I can't quite put my finger on, its the way in which she elongates the notes and slightly bends them, reminds me of another singer, maybe Amy Winehouse. Brooke Coombe has a more of blue/soul/RNB twist on her presentation IMO but it is not far way from the aforementioned. The songs are quite samey to other artists IMO, I think if she can find her own unique style then she could become a star, I expect we will hear more of her. But for now she gets a 3/3 from me. She is touring Up North for 6 nights in November, and one night in Bright and the last night in London at Dingwalls. www.ticketmaster.co.uk/brooke-combe-tickets/artist/5343904

Like Tim not what I listen too. I actually enjoy her voice and agree about the mix letting it down. Not really fair for me to vote.

A generous 3/5 from me. I thought it rather ordinary. She's got a decent enough voice, but so have many others, and there's really nothing to lift her above the pack.
"Miss Me Now" would probably make a decent Eurovision entry for someone.

Nice voice and production, relationship soul ballads are not really my thing. Just Okay and so 3/5.
