I have 2 pairs of Energy 22 Reference speakers and all 4 tweats are blown. after spending a lot of time on the internet it appears I have 2 options.....
Option1 send all four to a company in Nova Scotia Canada called ABI Technical Service and they overhaul them at a cost of $160.00 each Canadian . Option 2 Buy 4 replacement/upgrades from the Human Speaker Company in New Hampshire USA. at aprox $78.00 each.
I have recently purchased a pair of Mirage M3-si speakers, I dont want to part with the Energy's as i have enjoyed them some much over the years. I am getting back into music lately due to becoming disabled ,and very much enjoying setting up additional components
What would be the best option and why. TIA. I live in Moncton NB

I do not know either speakers but what I will say is that Speakers are personnel in taste, the only way you can know for yourself is to hear both in your system. Sorry I cannot be more helpful.

Hi - I don't know the Energy 22 Reference speakers, other than having read that they are well respected in some quarters. I'm not sure they were actually available here in the UK. However, I do know the Mirage M-3si, as they have been my main system speakers for almost 20 years. If you respect their need for space, particularly to the sides, then the Mirages are capable of amazing performance.
As for your question, I think I would pay the premium for having the original tweeters rebuilt, because, that way you stand a chance of getting back to the sound that you obviously love. Changing the tweeters for a different design which their maker calls an upgrade (well, they would, wouldn't they) is a whole different kettle of fish and may make your beloved speakers into something completely different.

Agreed, I would be wary of changing the tweeters to anything other than original. Otherwise it's a bit like rolling the dice and seeing if you like the sound or not ...

I agree with Chris about the rebuilds.

Hi Chris B , thanks for responding. I think I know the answer to my question and totally agree with you . I was kind of hoping that someone would chime in and say they did the upgrade and they were totally happy with them.

I'd love to know more about the speakers, so if you could tell us in this thread, that would be great. Also, it would be fantastic if you could keep us updated on what you do and how the change goes. Pictures for both if possible!

We had the energy pro 22 in Australia in the ‘90’s. I recall talk about Energy calling the tweeter the million dollar tweeter as that’s what they spent to develop them. I owned some for a little while, wish I still had them but no doubt the tweeters would be no good. Definitely get yours rebuilt.
