RPWL – ‘Tales From Outer Space’
RPWL started life in the late 1990s, as a Pink Floyd tribute band. After 3 years, they began recording their own music and just this year they released their eighth studio album. The Floyd influence was very strong in their first album but has become a little less overt in subsequent albums. These recordings are augmented by a total of nine live albums, two of which consist of covers of rare Pink Floyd tracks. Their original music also has hints of Genesis. Though RPWL have released concept albums, ‘Tales From Outer Space’ is not one of those, but there is a common theme throughout, with each of the seven tracks literally being a tale from outer space or about extra-terrestrial life.

I have been enjoying listening to their stuff for about a year now, after stumbling into them via YouTube, John.

Listening to it now in hi-res on Qobuz. Being SF influenced, I had expected something Hawkwind-like or perhaps more like Muse or Airbag. It's none of those things. It's like a heavier Alan Parsons, very melodic while being hard hitting. Surprisingly good. Its quite compressed and ReplayGain confirms it at -10.4dB. They sound better in their quieter moments and that keyboard playing sounds lush.
4/5 Interstellar.

I've just started listening, and my first two "sounds-a-bit-like"s are The Moody Blues (probably mostly the vocal arrangement on track 1) and Barclay James Harvest. Very enjoyable so far, I shall report back when I've finished listening.
[EDIT] And we're done. 4/5 but I bet they've got a 5/5 somewhere in their catalogue. I'm sticking with Barclay James Harvest as a blood relative of RPWL, but track 4 bounced in like a cover of the track the Beatles left off of Sgt. Pepper. Good stuff. I shall listen to more of them.

Quite pleasant. 'A New World' and 'Not Our Place To Be' both stood out for me. Vocals usually kill the music imo but in this case it was not bad and the sci-fi element and artwork has me wanting to explore further.
I'll give it 3/5 but am hopeful for an entry level 5/5

I really like this, there are shades of early Genesis but mostly this also reminds me of Big Big Train and early Pineapple Thief.
Good discovery and added to my favourites list
4/5

I am liking this not sure if a 4 or 5 yet as I need a few more listens to decide. The guitarist has a side project called Blind Ego that is also worth checking out. I can hear touches of It Bites and The Flower Kings

I played this 3 days running last week , the music is excellent , the vocalist is a bit too David Gilmour for me but as he's German I'll let him off .
I left it a week and returned , really enjoyed it , cemented a 5/5 , saved to my Qobuz favourites .
