Al DiMeola First came to fame in Return to Forever as a teenage sensation. Known for his fast picking technique. Out of all the jazz players he for me is the one player that gets riffs.
I seen him a few times, you can hear that people like Vai and Yngwie are influenced by him

My favorite band of all time is Meshuggah. The band from Umea, Sweden. This is their lead guitarist Fredrik Thorndendal's solo project.
Special Defects: Sol Niger Within

Fredrik is a big Alan Holdsworth fan along with Eddie Van Halen. His playing is legato in which he is hardly picking. Even today few players can really pull Alan style off.
Next up is Joshua from Secrets

"The 16 Men of Tain" is my favourite.
I thought you might enjoy this, if you haven't already seen it, John. By all means delete it if you don't want it here, as I don't want to crash your thread.

Next up with Yngwie. Yngwie has own classical inspired playing going on. Heavily inspired by Ritchie, Uli and Paganini. Probably the loudest concert I ever been too when I saw him play at the Marquee at his first London gig.

Trilogy is my favourite album of his.
My only gripe with Yngwie is that all of his albums suffer from poor recording quality. His last effort which he produced himself was in the same league as Coldplay. One of those guys who wants to be in control of everything...

My main gripe is you know exactly what to expect from Yngwie I love his tone and vibrato but after a while I switch off

I'd never heard of him, I have to say, John. Poor guy had some rotten luck health-wise, but fair play to him for his inner strength and perseverance

Yes he got the health issues just before his real moment of fame with Dave Lee Roth He was quite a talent and who knows how he would have developed
