Those that know me, know I have an aversion to playlists . . . . a bit old school at Timbo Towers.
I totally get why pretty much everyone I know uses them and accept that they think I'm odd . . . they just think it, but I know I am!
So, gotta at least try. My view generally is they're great for parties and background music, but the album is king for me. I like to play music to match the mood I'm in, so I like to hear complete works. A bit apprehensive, but never say never!

😂
I dump tracks I want to audition into Favourites list.
Have upteen artist playlists, sort of placeholders. I often want to cherry pick from an artist not have the good and less good from them, then can dive into an album / rabbit hole on the streaming service whenever.

Oddly ehnough, I started a Spotify pllaylist yesterday. The idea was to replicate a 1972 sampler album, and use it as the basis of my upcoming "Album Choice," but by track #7 I'd both lost the will to live and run up against a track that simply did not exist on Spotify. Consequently, you'll be getting something else.

I dump tracks I want to audition into Favourites list. I also have a playlist for trying stuff I've Shazam'd or read about. Then I'll listen properly later. If I like it, it goes into one of my permanent playlists. I then (usually) play the album.

. . . . by track #7 I'd both lost the will to live Haha, that's hilarious . . . I kid you not, by track 7 I was bored by it all, mostly as track 7 was John Coltrane and I thought 'I want to listen to John Coltrane now' I've kept it going but had to take a break and just started it again. I think it's going to be a one time experience, not the way I like to play music - still, always good to check these things. Most annoying was the volume going up and down pretty much for each song, can't be arsed with that nonsense. So, normal service has resumed here

If so, go to "Settings" and you'll find a switch under " Audio quality" marked "Normalize volume - set the same volume for all songs and podcasts". See if it helps.

Haha, I actually wrote a whole sentence starting with 'And before anyone says about normalising the volume . . . . ' but I deleted it and thought lets see how long it takes I'm strictly fixed volume output and no normalisation for my playback - it's moot anyway as I'm done with playlists, but thanks anyway old bean. I just don't enjoy playing random songs, gotta be the whole album, unless it's shite of course, then it ends abruptly

There's actually a flat earth, no playlist, has to be the whole hairshirt album Police, somewhere in some parallel universe - wait, we just might be that parallel universe 🙂

Well I'm definitely in a parallel universe all of my own, probably the best place for me to be honest!

My preparation for listening sessions. 1. Download album(s) 2. Quick ‘slider’ preview via VLC of tracks from PC > Denon/B&W surround system 3. Cull tracks in which I’m not interested 4. Repeat for another new album 5. Once I have about 10-12 culled albums I move to my main stereo system and have a listening session for up to 4-6 hours (continue cull). May listen to 20% again someday. 6. Two listening sessions a week. Turns it into a ‘look-forward’ treat.

Wow Interesting that this topic has come up now.
Recently I started working with a guy who doesn't like Spotify lol. I was mortified. He uses Pandora.
I had Pandora 10 years ago and dumped it fast. I needed albums.
But when he began playing stations built from one track for example an electronic song, the songs Pandora was suggesting were freaking brilliant. Out of 10 songs I probably shazammed 7 or 8 and have listened to those frequently.
When I say electronic though I dont mean Techno I mean songs with fun vocals and beats that have electronic elements added like this:

I started working with a guy who doesn't like Spotify lol. Add me to that list, I switched from Spotify over 2 years ago. Just not the best fit for me anymore . . . good there's choice now though, as there's a streaming service for most people out there, just pick the one that fits you best . . . bit like music

I hear you Tim. I remember discussing with people years ago that I used Spotify for discovery.
I'm realizing now that I haven't used 'recommended artists' or discovered anything in Spotify in a long time. I use it to listen to things I've discovered elsewhere.
I guess I'll make Pandora my go to app for now. I feel like some genres work better in playlists than others. In metal I prefer the whole album. In pop/electronic mixes I could do playlists.
