Only negative if you EQ them - at least with Compression drivers anyway. I've done it with cone mids and normal tweeters. You still have the X/O flexibility benefits and time alignment if needed - Tapped horns are rather a special case being 4.3m long.
Another route that a couple of fellow horn enthusiasts have taken is to do all the X/O and EQ in Jriver and use a fancy Audiophile sound card with multiple line outs - I've not explored that but it works for them. Getting a reliable and quiet PC setup is a pre-requisite. I've done very basic but of EQ'ing in Jriver while demoing Laptop / Jriver on a friends system (he only uses vinyl) with passive X/O's.There was a room mode I suspected to be at around 100Hz and after a little trial and error I was able to fix it by ear - improved things quite a bit I thought. He could not fault the SQ, all from a Laptop USB to optical converter with built in DAC too into his pre.
Many ways of skinning the proverbial:)
