The " Horrible Histories" Proms look fun, and well worth a listen/watch on the Beeb. I quite fancy Prom 57 too, as well as 35, 45, and 56, obviously, which is, I beleieve, being boradcast live. Will you be " gettin' yer Wang on" on Friday 4 August, Jules? Is it just me, or does there seem to be more 20 th/21 st century music this year?

No Yuja for me, the programme doesn't interest me sadly.
I think I will book these concerts -
PROM 3: BENJAMIN GROSVENOR PIANO RECITAL
PROM 16: THE HALLÉ PERFORMS SHOSTAKOVICH’S FIFTH SYMPHONY
PROM 41: Ligeti Lontano Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 4 in G major Shostakovich Symphony No. 10 in E minor

I don't think I could persuade Ruth to see Beethoven's 9th, sadly.
I've seen a great performance of Shostakovich 5th and of Poulenc's Carmelites.
Oh, hang on a minute: Ligeti's Requiem, Lux Aeterna and Zarathustra? Bloody hell, I fancy that!

Right, I've put the tickets in my Proms planner. Anyone else fancy the Ligeti/Strauss one (Prom 36)?

Have you selected Prom 16 for Shosta?
Tell me about the Poulenc!

No, I don't think I'll go to the Shostakovich.
The Poulenc Carmelites are very much in his style with lots of lovely Poulenc like cues, but they're a bit of a long haul. Not as wonderful as the Stabat Mater or the Organ Concerto.

Is it just me, or does there seem to be more 20 th/21 st century music this year? I'm not sure about this Paul - just on 'casual viewing' there seems to be the usual mix of new and old. I thought perhaps this year they have gone a bit more traditional and reined in the "experimental" a little.

I'm up and waiting this morning to try to get tickets for Prom 36. Always wanted to hear Ligeti and the Zarathustra is a big bonus.
