If Scotland gains its independence as a result of the forthcoming referendum, the remainder of the UK will be known as the "Former United Kingdom" (FUK). In a bid to discourage the Scots from voting "yes" the English government has begun a campaign with the slogan "Vote NO for FUK's sake." They feel that Scottish voters will warm to this.

FFS don't leave us to deal with these twats by ourselves, who else is going to slap that smug grin off of Cameron's face?

In all seriousness and leaving aside my personal opinion on the matter, it is my belief that a YES vote would be disastrous for Scotland's economy in the short to medium term, although perhaps beneficial further down the road. The salient questions are in which case, how much further down the road and how much pain are the population willing to take?
Salmond is a reasonable orator however his plans for Scotland's future lack the crucial details required for people to make an informed decision and on that basis the logical choice is 'NO' on this occasion...

I can't help feeling that Salmond is doing this because he wants to go down in history as the man who took Scotland into statehood. Give it ten years or so and he may well wish he hadn't because he is NOT the right person for the job as his motives are highly suspect.

Its the vitriol that surprises. With the depth of bad feeling between the two halves, are we going to see another bid for independence soon - Scotland A and Scotland B? It would be interesting to see where the split is. Is it regional or neighbour against neighbour.
With the vote this close, how are the 'defeated' going to feel and behave afterward?

This is what worries me too Gordon. Neither side dare touch the sectarian question and yet they ignore it at their peril. This is a powderkeg waiting for a spark, and this referendum may just be it, whichever way the vote goes...

All pain IMO It will cost billions If if happens, in 10 years it won't matter at all, except for the large bill we will still all be paying Murdoch, the other multinationals, the damned bankers and others we don't like will still be in charge of everyone The world at large doesn't give a toss either way Uniting Germany was fraught. Splitting is a load more work especially with the union going back so far

It's a moot point until we see which way it goes.

For everyone's sake I'm hoping for a 'NO' vote because Salmond and his cronies are playing the man rather than the ball and that never ends well. The Scots should be patient and wait until someone with real integrity steps up to the plate.

I feel that Salmond has no plans that mean much because he never expected it to get so close, he wants to go into history as the man who gave us the vote, he may get more than he bargained for, whatever the result it will not be peaceful up here between the two camps. I just wish it was over( preferably with the result that I want) so we can get on with life.

Well I had the last political discussion stamped on by a mod so I don't see why they have a double standard?
I don't personally approve of censorship but I dislike double-standards even more.

It's a bit more than mere politics, it's a country's people deciding it's fate.
