yeah, i was pretty impressed (for $149USD) with the wi-fi transport looking at the total harmonic distortion and plus noise THD+N

I have both units. Before I had some old Apple airport units linked to an Apple Extreme router. This had worked well for years but recently I had suffered dropouts and the difficulty of re-joining the network (The major router is a BT one).
My first replacement was the Wiim Mini linked to a non-hi-fi unit in the kitchen. This suffered similar dropouts and have returned it this morning - but for a replacement. I believe the unit to be faulty.
The Pro version I received two days ago. It has behaved almost faultlessly and is linked via ethernet to my main system. I use spdif to my wonderful RME DAC. It's excellent, and can stream hi-def audio from my M2 MacMini Pro.
Recommended.
I do also endorse others who recommend not only the excellent free app to go with these units but also the forums and feedback from Wiim (they must have someone who works 24/7). They really do seem helpful and welcome feedback.
All this could change of course if my Wiim Mini suffers the same dropouts as the previous item!
Compared with other items from other manufscturers - it's a steal!

Yes, the app is very good. Radio Paradise is only a few clicks away!
The internal DAC (the same I believe in both units) is 'average'. For my kitchen audio it doesn't matter as it's not hi-fi, but the RME DAC in my main room lifts it (the 'Pro' version) to another level. I have a spare LPS somewhere which could replace the provided unit on the 'Pro unit. I'll try that next week.
(The 'Mini' version doesn't come with a PS -one is meant to use one's own old 5V 2A 'phone charger.)

Thanks chaps, all good to know, so far I haven't read anything negative about them. I need something simple (but competent) to plug into my Rega DAC to play Tidal, now I've stopped using Roon. Playing my own ripped FLAC files is still my primary source, but I need a streaming service for discovery and the odd album I don't want to buy for just a few tracks I might like.
I think I'll take a punt on the Pro, although NAD have just released the CS1, which would also do the job, but it's twice the price.

Ive had a mini for about 3 weeks, its had the odd dropout which has been more to do with my crappy old virgin media superhub having rubbish wifi than the mini. Ive been using tidal connect. The app is pretty good on its own, tidal connect is easier. I have it connected to a topping e30 dac rather than using its internal dac.
Only thing i wish the mini had is an ethernet port but the pro has that for some more dosh.
I dont have any hi res files and am using tidal hifi at 44.1, my cyrus cd player is plugged into the dac too, i have a hard time telling much difference. I want to get another one to go upstairs with my headphone setup. For the money i think it is excellent.

Being hard wired is a deal breaker, I only use Wi-Fi for my phone and tablet, so the Pro would be a must. Tidal connect would I think be my preferred way of using it, so good to know you think that's better than using the WiiM app. An ethernet port for me is essential, I can't live with dropouts, not even once in a blue moon! I've a friend who did a huge renovation and extension to his house recently, I'm talking big. He's a muso and asked for advice re getting music around the home, he uses the Bluesound eco system outside his main music room. I impressed on him that whatever he did, make sure when they rewire you have a fixed Ethernet network. He didn't and has Wi-Fi repeaters instead for all the Bluesounds and TV sets . . . you guessed it, constant drop outs which drives him batty. I've never said I told you so and he's never really discussed it, but I know he knows he messed up.

I tried music streaming via a wi-fi mesh system. It didn't last long at all. Dropouts were maddening.
This doesn't happen at all with a 4G router, very reliable and better sound quality than a copper based landline.

That makes sense Martin, but I don't think I'm ever likely to switch to just streaming, I like my own FLAC library too much to abandon it . . . never say never though
