This is simply one of my all time favourite pieces of music from any genre.
UK listeners may recognize it as the theme from long running TV series, The Onedin Line.
The full title is "Adagio of Spartacus and Phrygia" taken from the ballet Spartacus by Aram Khachaturian. Yes folks it's the Roman slave revolt which was also dramatised by Hollywood with Kirk Douglas in his prime.
Here is the most famous (and best) recording with the Vienna Philharmonic turning everything up to 11. Check out the huge dynamic swings, get lost in the drama, and PLAY LOUD!!
