I’ve no pictures, but 20 years ago I bought my first expensive system.
B&W N803’s Krell kav300iL Arcam Cd33
It’s been a money pit journey ever since, but I think I’m finally getting there having paid more attention to the mains and noise in general.

25 years ago it would have been the same Rega Ela speakers driven by Onix amplification (maybe still to OA21S) and a Meridian 206B CD / DAC plus a Rega Planar 3 / RB300 arm (MM cartridge). Same speaker cables as now, and an Audio Research interconnect from the DAC to amplifier: the record deck had its own
20 years ago it would have been much the same except I think by then I was using an Onix pre-amplifier and Meridian monoblock power amplifiers and possibly the later Meridian CD and DAC. Same speaker cables, but Siltech interconnects.
Apart from the Rega Planar and arm, I still have it all in storage although the later Meridian 200 / 263 occasionally gets put into the German system if I'm playing a CD loaned to me.

25 years ago I was still using Krells, oh well you live and learn
Pair of the Krell FPB-650M(C)
Speakers at the time had to be Wilson Watt Puppies 6's with tails in the Obsidian black (nice finish)
Front end Wadia 270 & 27ix Not much change here apart from internals

I have none of it now..
Since 2005 i went in every other direction possible via diy, japanese recievers, countless (literally) turntables, valve amps, vintage cd (mostly early philips based). Kids, redundancies, cars, bikes, houses ect mean the money to throw at hifi was spent elsewhere.
There are individual outstanding pieces of kit that i had that i wish i had kept such as the yamaha pf800 turntable mt wife bought me on a whim, the quad 11Ls and a huge sony reciever but not all that many.
Longest lived bit of kit is my jbe series 3 which i have had for 13 years. It arrived via courier about 8am, 10 minutes after i got my wife and newborn son (no 3 and last thank god) to sleep after bringing them home from the hospital. I had just sat down with a cup of coffee. So that deck has its own little story and means alot to me.

20 years ago (nearly) the photo is from 2004 Linn Speakers - Ninka Tag Mclaren CD Player - DVD32r Tag Mclaren Amp - 100x5r Tag Mclaren Pre Amp - AV32r 192bp Pioneer Plasma Screen - 720p resolution only

10 years agoThe speakers had grown a little (Linn Accurate 242) and the TV got a little thinner. Tag kit still going strong. What struck me when looking out these photo's I had my Tag kit for a long time, during which I spent my money on power and cabling to improve the sound. My Tag Mclaren amp was only replaced last year, 2022, still working and having had it serviced back in 2012 it still sounded very good against the market and thus every time I had looked to replace it a demo told me it was still holding it's own. The rest of my kit went in 2018 when I rebuilt the room and system from scratch, sold everything (accept the amp) and moved to new kit and never looked back. And finally ... 2018 and the Tag Mclaren amp at the bottom still going strong.
Now you may notice my avatar and see the Tag Mclaren kit has a place in my heart.
