Dec(2) Davie Allan & The Arrows - 'Fuzz For The Holidays 2' (2007) Ho, ho, ho, have I got a surprise for you!!Right then, let's get this out of the way right from the start: I hate Christmas records. However, if you have to listen to Christmas music, then let it be something different. This is different. Ladies and gentlemen, I bring you the gift of Davie Allan and the Arrows. Surf guitar music is a guilty pleasure of mine and Davie Allan spent a lot of the 1960s providing music for surfing movies. His sound changed in 1966 when he did the soundtrack for the Peter Fonda film, 'Wild Angels'. The change came about as a result of his use of fuzz and he's never changed that much since. His albums are distinctive for their utterly awful cover art but his music is great (especially on a long car journey) and should always be cranked up! YouTube: The album is available in sequence as a playlist. www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mY8yZz7kLfXXWgdqoSgxQ_1qH3QC1ob6QFurther listening - (proper Davie Allan and the Arrows albums): My favourite Davie Allan albums are 'Loud, Loose and Savage' (1994) and 'Fuzz Fest' (1997). However, if for some reason you like this album, there is of course Volume One of 'Fuzz for the Holidays'! The intro to 'White Christmas is magnificent.

Must be one of the best ever Xmas Office Party albums but one of the worst ever for listening by yourself at home. Two extremes - how on earth to score it??

I think you have to score it purely as a Christmas album Jules. I would never have chosen it if it not for the time of year. Maybe treat it as I said in my preamble: If you've got to listen to Christmas music..." I'd never have scored it so highly myself otherwise!!

Oh dear, Christmas songs really do suck, and even when converted to "Status Quo does Crimble", they still suck. I was amazed to even find it on Qobuz I love Brussells sprouts, how can you give them a score of 1/5? Oh well, 1/5 it is and let it never darken my doorstep again.

I attempted to listen to this but ended up track skipping and listening to about 30 seconds of each, just horrible. 1/5 from me.

A generous 3/5 I'm afraid, and that's coming from someone who owns a LOT of Christmas music, both classical and modern. One of those three points was purely for it being a Christmas album in fact.
It sounds a bit like somebody introduced a very young Hank Marvin to a prototype Maestro FZ-1 Fuzz-Tone pedal and the novelty took far too long to wear off.
If we're aiming at a guitar-based Christmas, this is more my style...
