I came across this on Farcebook, and it should attract some wide-ranging positive and negative comments. I've added some more pics I Googled, and a link to their website, which is is great for people who like to see other people doing things with big hunks of metal and lathes and stuff... BLURB FOM FARCEBOOK POSTThe Cosmotron listening room, situated at the manufacturing facility in North Wales. These unusual British made speakers are the result of many years in development and a unique speaker manufacturing process that involves casting solid bronze and painstakingly polishing to a mirror finish. The engineering is fastidious throughout. We have this listening room to demonstrate that they don’t just look beautiful, they are also sonically superb. Their website - cosmotronloudspeakers.com/ - is well worth a look. At the top right of the site ar three horizontal lines, which expand into the menu. The films are well made, and interesting, especiually from an engineering standpoint. Click on the dots on the speaker to select them for viewing. Each view (Front, Side, and Rear) has different videos to enjoy. If they've put as much work into their speakers as they have their website I'd love to hear them Maybe it's style-over-substance, I don't know, because I haven't heard them, but I do like the concept, and could definitely live with them in the right room ...if I were rich enough to have a house big enough to support a " novelty hi-fi" room.

I can only imagine the reaction of me missus as I dragged a pair of these across the portal of our shanty.

I'm afraid I only care about how they sound, and about that I know nothing.
Can't say I'm endeared with the looks, which would only be a bloody distraction from the music.

Is Donald Trump a Flash Gordon fan? If so, I think he would be the target customer.

I must admit to a little disappointment, in that everyone seems to be homing in on their superficiality, and nobody seems interested in the technical side of things and the processes behind their manufacture. I think they're a breath of fresh air, and one doesn't have to appreciate their design to appreciate that somebody, at least, is prepared to step outside of convention to build something different. Whether that works or not is another matter, but it is the way progress is made rather than simply following conventional design methodology amd ,materials. Still, on reflection, I suppose it's what I should have expected from a bunch of conservative (note the small "c"), staid, boring old farts who are content to salivate over the same old veneered boxes. Devil's Advocate? Moi? Heaven forfend.

Yes, but there's sod all information on what technology has been incorporated into these things. For all I know, they've used some off-the-shelf drivers in a fancy metal case. Not worth salivating over. So convince me that they sound special and why

Not worth salivating over. So convince me that they sound special and why My original point was that, as I said, I hadn't heard them, I'll probably never hear them, consequently I've no clue what they sound like, but they're different, and they're interesting (to me at least) because of that.

I'm reminded of the 'coffin' amp touted around AoS many years ago. It was peddled with the most cod-explanations of why it was the best amp ever, supported by an outrageously high price. It appeared to be nothing more than a gain clone wrapped in a dodgy wooden case.

The speakers were designed by "WW and M."
Hmm - why the need for secrecy? No phone number, postal address or email address, just an online enquiry form. Maybe they live on a different planet?

I remember that amplifier truly ugly. I also remember it going down in price over time on eBay

NOTE TO SELF: Only post boring stuff in future, they're not ready to accept new ideas or have "fun" if it involves their Holy Hobby.

Ok - my first thought when I saw them was TinTin's rocket ship in Destination Moon / Explorers on the Moon, two of the best TinTin books Herge ever wrote.

It appeared to be nothing more than a gain clone wrapped in a dodgy wooden case. Jimmy Hughes reviewed an amp in Hi-Fi Answers, which he thought wasn't bad. Upon looking inside, that too was such an amp, using boutique parts. Clearwater once made a coffin-type shaped set of speakers.

Ming Da Merciless amps are probably an ideal match for the speakers.
Boom! Boom!
