Who has done either or both ?
Solicitors want £100s to £1000s but you can DIY your self for about 10 times less.
LPAs can sort you out if you are incapacitated and still around We tried to do one for the MIL but after doing all the work and paying the money it was sent back due to a minor slip of the pen. Think the witness missed out her middle initial or similar
We had wills. Then we got married. Null and void so we need another pair. Can't be *that* complicated to DIY can it ?
The simplest will I have ever heard of, apparently legal, at least then was "All to wife"
If you don't have either free wills month is coming up so a good time to sort.

I'll do one for you, Mike. Free of charge too. I'll just email over the last page for you to sign and then we can sort out the details later!

I set up an LPA so that I could look after my mum's bank accounts when she went into care, and I had exactly the same problem, my next-door neighbour, who witnessed it for me, put an initial instead of her full middle name if I remember correctly. It was just a matter of getting her to re-sign and returning the paperwork once more though...and waiting...and waiting.... They do take a bloody age to set things up.

That could have been our problem The boss gave the impression we had to do it all over again. Hmm

Hmm I can't remember the precise circumstance, but I think that they just returned the section that needed correcting, and I had to fill it out again and get witnesses to sign it again.

Knowing the boss and her sister they took that as 'can only be completely redone from scratch with another payment'

Knowing the boss and her sister they took that as 'can only be completely redone from scratch with another payment' There definitely was not an additional payment, Mike. That, I would have remembered. I do remember that if you don't complete the LPA process your payment is (eventually) refunded.

We have wills set in place.my wife(Suzanne)was told by the Banks to get her name on her mams bank accounts so she could use them to handle her finances as she had Dementia and Parkinson's. We also had power of attorney be that ended last week when she passed, our wills were set up in a week or so.We learned a big lesson 6 years ago when her dad died we let the Registrar close everything for a small sum of money like driving licence, passports, bank accounts, state pension and other things.it locked us out of accounts where bills were to be paid from, that was a bit of a nightmare as we had to fund them till it got sorted out.Getting here name on the accounts was a god send.
