Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick (1972)
I haven't listened to this for maybe 20 years. The album is happily stored away in the attic.
A recent trial of Qobuz had me listening to a few favourites. Emerson Lake and Palmer, Selling England by the Pound etc.
This is one I keep returning to, and is even better in Hi Res.

I didn't even need to listen as I only played it a couple of weeks back and it is a regular. Top rating from me, and I will even give it play in a second for good measure!

Awkard confession time, as I have never taken the time to listen to this album, I will listen to it, sometime next week.

Thanks for your choice Brett. I have a rather fabulous vinyl copy, which I will be spinning later.

I hadn't played this for a long, long time, and I have to say, it surprised me. It did absolutely nothing for me. I was always a Jethro Tull fan, and enjoyed their albums - of which I've probably got 10 or more - but nothing, nada, zilch, zero.
The musicianship, as always, is absolutely superb. I really don't know why I didn't connect with it.
At the moment it's a 3, but I'll try to get back and give it another listen. Maybe I was just in a weird mood or something.

Playing it in 24/96 from Qobuz, the Steven Wilson remaster sounds pretty damned good for a 1972 recording. Their overall sound and style reminds me strongly of PFM. It's quite proggy in a nice way, episodic like early Yes and Genesis, and I've enjoyed the album without anything remaining particularly memorable. 4/5.

I play this lovely album at least twice a year and listened to it very recently, about 1 month ago, I got the recent re-release vinyl and have a first pressing as well.
An all time favourite so 5/5

I often listen to concept based albums but never enjoyed Jethro Tull so come into this with mixed thoughts. Listening to this I just find myself disengaged with the music, it never holds my attention and comes across of music of its time. I give it a 2

I know this album well and have owned a copy or two for decades. It's actually my least favourite of their 'big' albums. Playing it again with fresh ears was pleasant enough, but not revelatory. 3 out of 5 from me and the description of "Can manage an occasional spin" absolutely hits the nail on the head for me.

One aim I had for this time around was to find something Paul might like. Many of my other choices had him less than enamoured.
At least you gave it a 3, so that's progress!

I didn't see that until after I'd posteed my revision, Brett. And I'm not just being " nice" cos it's my turn in the barrel next.
