On my Hydraulic Reference TT I have a Hadcock 242 silver plus arm with later solid metal counterweight stub (my idea taken up by George Hadcock) it's fitted with a XTC low slung counterweight made by John Choong using a computer algorithm to match my Cartridgeman MusicMaker 3 & now my current Cartridgeman MusicMaster with their fitted Isolator (a decoupling device I helped to develop) between cartridge and arm headshell or mounting point. The XTC CW places the COG very close to the stylus tip.
For those still using a TT what do you all use?

On my modified LP12 I use a Funk Firm FX.R II, but it has an under-slung counter-weight (by IsoKinetiK I think) plus a Funk Firm Houdini cartridge de-coupler. I use a Dynavector DRT XV-1t cartridge. I now use a Lab12 Melto2 phono-stage amplifier and have settled on 47 pF and 42 Ohms for that cartridge.

Thanks Martin. Bought with the turntable about 25 years ago from a local owner. I can’t see myself selling it now!

I think the LP12 has to be one of the best looking decks ever made. Especially when up against many of today's decks.

From the couple of threads I have started there are not many admitting to still using a turntable, those that do have some magnificent turntables, arms & cartridges any of which I would be pleased to listen to. My arm & cartridge history is no where as extensive as most. After the demise of Len Gregory my worry is replacing my current Cartridgeman moving Iron MusicMaster with it's Sapphire cantilever it's probably in its' twilight though still sounding lovely. Had Len not used me as a guinea pig for £300 I could not have spent £1600 on a cartridge without curtailing my other hobbies now on a pension even tighter, Lens favorite cartridge other than his own is also no longer made the Decca London as John Wright retired yesterday & closed the company. 1950's sharpened steel pin/stylus ( clockwork gramophone) 1965 Shure Dynetic (Garrard turntable built in arm) 1968 BeoGram 1000 built in cartridge to arm. 1972 Shure V15iii (SME 3009 on Hydraulic Reference TT) 1984 Dynavector 10X (SME 3009 on Hydraulic Reference TT) 1988 Linn Asak (Syrinx 2 with mass ring) 1998 Cartridgeman MusicMaker (Syrinx 2 with mass ring) 2005 Cartridgeman MusicMaker 2 (Isolator Hadcock 242 silver plus) 2010 Cartridgeman MusicMaker 3 (Isolator Hadcock 242 silver plus) 2013 Cartridgeman MusicMaster prototype (Isolator Hadcock 242 silver plus) 2023 ?? Possibly 2m Black will listen first though Hana ML would need pension busting SUT or step up. Any thoughts or observations would be welcome.

I can't give dates and I'll have forgotten a few, but these ones stood out:
Shure M55E - my first cartridge Goldring G800 - better Empire 2000E/III - a big step up Ultimo 10A - the first Dynavector Dynavector 20A - a taste of very good MC sound Ortofon MC10 - not memorable Ortofon MC20 - better and lasted a long time Audio Technica OC7 - really great all-rounder Audio Technica OC9 - better Audio Technica AT33 Anniversary - brilliant all-rounder Dynavector DV20X2 - good weighty sound Shelter 501 - a taste of Shelter but this used one was worn Shelter 5000 - my best cartridge ever, remarkably potent

I did use the family's old HMV wind-up gramaphone with its steel needles (in fact I have a box of new needles somewhere or other), but not as part of the 'hobby'.
My first deck was a Fidelity unit from Woolworth's. I suspect it had a replaceable stylus, but I didn't have it long enough to need to.
My first real deck was a direct drive Sony unit (a PS10 or a PS11 maybe, anyway around 1974 / 1975 I think). It came with a cartridge of some description (Sony I suspect) and I know I changed that to one by Sure, but cannot recall what. I used that until the mid to late 80s (and the friend I gave it to, and his children still do!).
My Rega Planar III / RB300 had a Corus Blue which I changed to a Corus Black and, for a short time (until I sold the deck to a friend), a Rega Elys cartridge.
Since owing my modified LP12 I have used Dynavector cartridges.
I have owned, and worn out, two DV XX2 MkIIs, two DV DRT XV-1s' (both changed due to damage, but at least the second one was a good half way through its life!) and my current cartridge, a DV DRT XV-1t.
There was a big gap between the RP III with a Corus Black and the Elys as my system was stored away for well over 10 years while I was starting and running my company and rebuilding the house. Once back in action, I changed the deck to the LP12 within a few months and use the deck often when I am in the UK.
I did own a Roksan Xerxes with an Artemis arm and a Dynavector 20X2 H/L, and had intended to bring that to Germany. It never happened and so it was never used by me 'in anger'. I gave the deck to an employee for one of their 'round birthdays' / Xmas gifts and it is still being used daily.
