Do you have, or have you heard, any of the Audio GD DACs Tony? Hi Joolz
Yes I have seen, measured and owned a couple of them, being honest DON'T believe the hype average at best.

Audio-GD strikes me as a small almost cult driven company like LKS. Gustard are clearly a cut above, making mature designs free of bugs and maximising the potential of, for instance, the ES9038 Pro chipset.
If the R26 is their first R2R design, they appear to have cracked it and were probably working on it for some time.

Thanks T, that’s interesting - I wonder why they can engineer the DI20HE much better than their DACs …

I was an early adopter of the X26pro and now the R26. Whilst I didn’t find a lot of difference between the two the X26 had been sold and I just have the R26. I’m using the R26 with a Lumin U1 (upgraded power supply) via Gustard U18. I was interested in how the R26 performed via the network connection using the mconnect app playing tidal. It took me a few days to get it working and I feel there will be no guarantee it’ll work next time I turn it on. The app is a bit clunky and slow compared to the slick Lumin app. Sound wise I think the network connection direct to the R26 is as good, if not better than streaming from the Lumin. Just seems to be more refined, more detail and yet smoother. I’ll do some more listening (if I can get the app to work again) and see how it goes.

Hmm, I tried getting on with Mconnect when experimenting with the Rendu streamers and didn't like it much. BubbleUPnP was far superior.

I have no issues with either Mconnect or Bubble but tend to use bubble

Mconnett doesn't sound as good as bubble or a couple of the other bespoke GUI players (when you get it working lol), its a real PIA to become stable, its the only other playback you can use on the Rockna at the moment. Not being a Roon fan I'm a bit snookered for the moment I will get around to coding something before Xmas, but I have a large body or work to wade through.

I'm interested in your thoughts regarding your obersvation with the R26's internal renderer, I found it easily outclassed by many modest streamers and that was before I factored in a DCC.
What do you feel it brings to the tabke that the Lumin doesn't?

I think you meant the R26, Tony, so amended your post.

In answer to a few questions. Re tips on getting the streaming going I’m really not sure of exactly what I did. Initially the mconnect didn’t find the R26 on my network. I think pushing the ‘streaming’ button worked. In relation the audio quality I just find the network connection so sound more hifi like, just sounded to be more refined than my Lumin set up. I’ll do more listening and see how it goes - as long as I can get the streamer working next time I try it out.

I finally got round to listening to the internal stream on the R26. No Spotify but can get Bubble working on it. Mids. and treble are good, but bass has a bit of a hump low down, it is not excessive, but it is there. It is a different presentation to the Zen stream, perhaps more detailed but also not quite as open. To confirm you do need to push the stream button on the remote to get working. The biggest issue was there is a gap between tracks that last about 1 second so whilst listening to an album no continuous playback. Its not in my settings as do not have this issue when playing through the zen.

Is there not a gapless option in Bubble, John. I seem to recall having to set that on the instance I run on a Synology NAS.

I get gapless via bubble through the zen stream and using the same settings

Maybe the note at the bottom if this will help:
"OpenHome Gapless playback # Enabling gapless playback has several benefits:
the obvious one is to be able to play gaplessly gapless albums like “Dark side of the moon” a less obvious one is to reduce gaps between non-gapless tracks streamed from the cloud (Dropbox, Google Music, etc). The next track to be played is buffered in advance making possibly long buffering unnoticeable on next track transition Gapless playback can only be enabled on renderers on which it may work.
Enabling it is not a guarantee that it will work. If gapless playback works in Android BubbleUPnP with the regular UPnP AV renderer, it should work with the OpenHome renderer managed by BubbleUPnP Server.
Non-exhaustive list of renderers tested working:
Denon DNP-F109 (and possible variants) Cambridge Audio Stream Magic 6 (with latest firmware) Simaudio Moon Mind 180D Electrocompaniet ECI-6DS foobar2000 (with foo_upnp) JRiver Media Center (playlist track reordering is buggy) gmrender-resurrect
If gapless playback does not work or if track advance fails, disable this setting."

It's on gapless I think the internal streamer is a work in progress

The info from Bubble suggests that if your streamer is not supported then you should turn gapless off and, I guess, allow the streamer to control it.
