Disintegration is The Cure's eighth album and the one that catapulted them into worldwide stardom , it was placed at 116 in Rolling Stone's Greatest Albums of all time . I was introduced to this album only 4/5 years ago , I had heard some of the singles before , Lullaby for one which won Music Video of the Year 1989 . Its a pop album with overblown but very well done production , the opening of the first track is wonderfully dramatic , one of the very best starts to any album I have heard .

One of those bands that, for no good reason, seemed to pass me by, apart from the obvious singles. I'll enjoy giving the album a spin.

Bought it on vinyl way back when and still have it. I was very taken with it.
Fascination Street was my fave track and you can really crank it ...

I'm giving it a listen now, and Track 2, Pictures Of You, really reminds me of the Baby Bird album (Ugly Beautiful) I posted as my Album Choice back in May. Full verdict later.

I've never been a fan or listened to an album of theirs so this will be interesting.

This is very much music of its time. It has that 80s guitar sound. Easy to listen to, without fully engaging me 2.5 would be an ideal score. I give it a 3, then

3 from me too. I quite liked some of the songs, (Pictures Of You, Homesick, Prayers For Rain) but not enough to make me want to listen to the album again.

It is music of its time, for sure. It isn't really gelling with me, to be honest.
It's not that I completely reject that period or style. For instance, Mink Deville is a group I like a lot from the same era.
2 stars.

I *so* enjoyed listening to this again, even if it was just on my phone, thanks Barrington. Forgot how much I loved it ...
I don't think it has dated in the way that much of 80's pop music has (I love much of 80's pop) but then I have never thought of this as a pop album.
11 top tunes from 12 on offer for me.
An easy 5 star.

Not one of their best (IMO). They had lost what i liked about them by this time. I used to own this album but hardly ever played it so I traded it in. A three from me but that is being generous.

4/5 from me. Some overlap remixes of some of the tracks here: tidal.com/album/629149These overlaps are basically better, I think. The version of Fascination Street on the link is outstanding I reckon. Play at 11 at 10:15 on a Saturday night whilst blitzed. If that doesn't do the job for you, you may well be an alien.

At the end of the day, The Cure have been amazing for decades.
If you don't think so, listen a lot more.

I think this is the only album I've heard from The Cure. It's quite beautiful. I remember hearing years ago a live recording of 'Pictures Of You' performed in Paris. It sounded massive and enchanting.
I've never once been a big fan of The Cure but am glad to be reminded of this and will listen with new ears.

Surprised to read this was their most popular album. I tried listening to it twice. Get to around track 7/8, and it gets too much. Find some of it a wall of sound. Love Lullaby, with a few other tracks okay.
Agree with Mike about Faith and Seventeen Seconds. Those are two albums I listen to monthly. I found the Pornography album way too dark, and never really returned to their later stuff. Although did buy Head on the Door around 85?, and liked some of those songs.
This manages a low three.
