Little update on the Furez FZ142AS speaker cable, had more of a chance to live with them, and they really do punch way beyond their price. And it's taken a while to be able the express the differences between the Tellurium Q ultra Blue 2 cable and the Furez. One of the trates of the Tellurium Q ultra Blue 2 is it tends to project forward vocals and instruments to the front, with the Furez there are presented without the projection, and more of a neutral pallet, but not at the expenense of soundstage or sound quality. Of course a added factor is your speakers,my MA Studio are very clear,so you could have situation where Tellurium Q ultra Blue 2 are perfect match to your speakers, certainly it was a case "If you Don't know, you Don't know" for myself, so thanks "Atoz" for such a great tip.
Not much Hi-fi action in terms of playing around, although I have been busy helping "Atoz" install Jriver on Linux (We both now could write a book on this, but got there in the end). Hopefully "Atoz" will be enjoying the fun of going to Digital files, and who knows, checking out some streaming sites as well, I know it's going to open a massive door to his enjoyment to music.
Thats it... Catch you on the next bit of gossip.

So today l got around to adding some internal shielding around my LB clock. I know Rodders reported a uplift in performance,l should have done it a while back, but got drawn into other things, also it's not like the LB sounds bad anyway. 20240211_113933 by Damien Read, on Flickr I actually forgot to take a final shot! So the next photo is mid way, very simple, insulation tape to cover clock, copper for sheilding, and missing from the photo,a bit of bitumen roof flashing.A sandwich really. 20240211_115910 by Damien Read, on Flickr l also did the underneath of the board where clock is, sandwich again, but used insulation tape instead of roof flashing for bottom, was just concerned it may rub the LB bottom case. Not pictured l also added some flashing tape to the roof of the LB internal case, for damping. 20240211_115423 by Damien Read, on Flickr 20240211_115551 by Damien Read, on Flickr Haven't hard chance to listen yet, just checked it powered up. All being well, l have nose inside those cheap FMCs and see if anything can be done. Damien

Looks good Damien. I need to open up my Dac and have a go at shielding.

Thanks Matt. MartinTs tungsten mod works really well on the Gustard R26 & X26, just add some flashing tape to cover then Copper tape to sheild, very impressive.
Would be interesting if somebody tried a different DAC, but it looks like its a universal mod,the only experiment part the size of the tungsten cube.

One small one for each, don't span both oscillators and connect the cans together.

Ok thanks, I’ll figure out what size to get as those parts look small.

Ok thanks, I’ll figure out what size to get as those parts look small. l went for 15mm Squared, but MartinT went 20mm l believe. Take a look on AliExpress. Just found this amazing item on AliExpress. Check it out! a.aliexpress.com/_EIgYDRL

LB update... Well blow me down... That simple sheilding mod Rodders recommends eons ago is excellent.
It's very simple to carry out. First thing l noticed was accompanied percussion was clearer, and easy to follow, with additional space. The whole audio spectrum seems to be cleaner. l won't bang on about micro details...and all the cliques,it simply improves the already fantastic LB. And if you don't like the mod,you can carefully take the sheilding back off. A no brainer really.
l can imagine Tony telepathically re Channelling his words "Use a 7.5 volt psu"

Well in flurry of activity,l started to take a look at my cheap FMCs 20240211_154756 by Damien Read, on Flickr Excellent...News. Glued a 5mm Squared tungsten cube, l will let cure overnight before sheilding and damping. Not really sure what to expect from this mod,it's my 1st on a actual network device,so l accept it could be wasted energy. Was toying with charging that cap, further down the line any suggestions folks? l give you the spec tomorrow. And feedback.. 20240211_160012 by Damien Read, on Flickr

What kind of glue do you suggest Damien?

What kind of glue do you suggest Damien? l just use Superglue, l know MartinT uses some type of epoxy.l just make sure is will work on Metal. You only need a tiny amount of glue, but you need to experiment with your preferred weight, just sit it on top!

The reason being, all my Dac’s internals are mounted to the underside of the lid.

Not really...I can't see that working, with blu tac,how about testing the unit upside down if possible first.

So back to FMC update, now the 5mm tungsten cube have cured, l have added a small square of flashing. One downside,l didn't add additional sheilding, due to SMT components being so close to the Crystal. Well l can report, l couldn't really detect much a difference, slightly more bottom end,but probably my imagination. So certainly not the outcome I was hoping, and TBH l'm not sure what l was expecting. I may try and swap out the capacitor next FMC cap standard by Damien Read, on Flickr And just by chance...l happen to have 4 Panasonic FC cap's from a past project that didn't happen. And looks about just the right size to squeeze in the unit. Panasonic FC replacement for FMC by Damien Read, on Flickr
