There’s a 686 built by Joe Henry for sale on PFM and Audioaddicts for nearly £600 less than retail. Here it is: audioaddictsforum.com/thread/2513I know those that have them really rate them, think Firebottle has a 286 and Oliver (Bigman80) has a 686, I’m think Phonomac might have one too.

Here's mine. The build consists of a 2x300va O-CORE transformers wired for anti-phase, 8 Kemet Slit caps, 2x 686 PCBS, PC-CCC solid core wiring, soft start module, WBT sockets, and full aluminium enclosure. It's the second one we've built and I am yet to hear an amp that can beat it. A lot of the performance hindges on the power supply, as the PCBs themselves are pretty much in the top percentile of measurable performance. Tom Christiansen reckons that SMPS have no bearing on the sound, but I disagree. The original one I had came from Tom, with two SMPS. We took the SMPS out and fitted a simple toroidal power supply. Big improvement.

Lovely stuff Oliver, all looks very neat indeed.
Certainly on a list of amps I'd like to hear when I can.
