Maybe one of those storms will do us a favour and smite some yellow-haired tosser or other!

Looked at 76 to compare Little in the way of hard data after about 5 minutes looking My guess the peak not as high as recently but it was very hot for weeks Therefore probably worse

There was not nearly the electrical and computer infrastructure then as there is now, and the internet and personal computers didn't exist.

Didn't realise 1976 was in black and white ! Climate change to one side (ha ha) I think 1976 was worse as it went on for so much longer - and I was driving to London every day So far as the future is concerned we have to do anything we can to massively cut energy and water use The only questions : How bad, how often For me : How can I persuade people I know to do something themselves I honestly thought we were on roughly the same page Most people aren't even reading that book When it comes to debating I will probably argue 2022 is worse

I feel that 2022 still has the potential to be quite a lot worse in one way or another.

Catching up and currently on New Scientist August 2019 What I have read there over the past few years makes for really grim reading on climate change
Broadly : (In 2019) We are screwed

BTW how are you guys each doing this summer with this heat?
This is the first summer that it has fully dawned on me how vastly different my quality of sleep is in the chilly months and in summer.
Top notch sleep in winter. Miserable sweaty pig half-sleep in summer without an AC just 2 fans pointed at me.
Walking outside is like taking a swim in this cloud of humid air.

I drove home just now in 29C and I was overheated. Refused to use the AC to conserve fuel.
Mostly, the weather is very pleasant right now.

Don't cycle when too warm. 29'c is unpleasant, no cool from the movement, just like going into a hair dryer. Wake up covered in sweat, change top, if really bad, wake up again covered in sweat, change top All relevant windows open but air not moving. Don't think I could sleep with a fan on me. Where I used to work was stifling in Summer Worked out that 4 fans would pump the air around in a circle so organised it with us punters in the airflow Wonderful, well, bearable

What I don't get is that the reports from all over the world, back then, suggest a catastrophe and I'm still not seeing it on normal media in '22. The poorest, people, nations will feel it hardest. The richer and richest will spend as much money as they need to maintain.

It doesn't help that those in the pockets of the oil companies are idiot climate change deniers and too many sheeple follow everything they say.

Learned their lessons well from Big tobacco denying lung cancer and all the rest. Employed some of the same people. Same job, different industry

Learned their lessons well from Big tobacco denying lung cancer and all the rest. Employed some of the same people. Same job, different industry I guess the tobacco industry learned it from the lead sulphate sweetener in Georgian Cider and perhaps the luminous watch dial producers, who's workers painted radio active paint on dials - mouth and throat cancer as they formed the brushed suitably fine in their mouths.. Nothing to see here...
