1976 only seemed to go on forever I was driving up to SE London and the City to work then Didn't enjoy it I was working in the City then, too. If you thought commuting by car was bad you should have tried the trains. I spent a lot of lunchtimes (for lunchtimes read " afternoons") sitting on or standing by this wall, which was outside the Tiger Tavern - a part of the Bowring Building on Tower Place EC3 - drinking bottles of ice-cold Pils. We were supposed to be working, but it was far too hot for that all telephone engineering nonsense.

It's 20 past 7 here now and it is about 28 ºC and unlikely to drop below 20 ºC tonight (and so will be warmer in the apartment). We had an Indian meal in a restaurant in town along with a couple of cold beers at about 6 and then walked home. In another hour we'll open the windows to catch the evening breeze as usual. We are pretty used to this now and, although it goes on for longer these days, these sorts of temperatures are fairly normal here in the summer. What is unusual though are the mild winters. When I first moved here, it was often -10 ºC in the day and -20 ºC was common (at least at night). These days it is rare for it to drop below zero for more than a day or so. Although the UK is roasting at the moment, and if that becomes the norm there will be all sorts of societal impacts (as well as agronomic ones), there will be worse to come if the Gulf Stream should 'flip': then winter temperatures will plummet and growing food will become very difficult in the short growing season that will result. Just to add to the feeling doom, this is an interesting article. www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/jul/18/britain-hothouse-extreme-weather

Was a bit warm on the golf course today, shot a good score, so I never really noticed the heat lol.

It is 35 ºC in the shade here in Potsdam, but due to hit 36. Tomorrow, 37 ºC is forecast, but I will be at the airport by lunchtime. Then it drops down to high 20s for the next week or so. I understand it is supposed to be cooler in the UK tomorrow and so, hopefully, I will have missed the worst. When are you back, Martin?

When are you back, Martin? We're back at 23:30 tomorrow (Wed) on a late flight from Seville. Trying to check-in with Iberia but nope, you can only check-in 24 hours in advance. It was easier with the well-named Easyjet.

Yes, they use the same system as BA it seems. My flight tomorrow, although a BA number, is operated by Iberia. They have the same parent company.

BA/Iberia online checking won't allow me to, even though it invites me to. It says we have to check-in at the airport. Why? Overbooked? Now we'll have to get there early in order to get on it. Once again - I WILL NEVER FLY BA EVER AGAIN!!! The most useless customer insensitive pile of turd ever called an airline.

Plane is delayed but we finally got checked in. Asked a few in the queue and no-one had managed to check in electronically. Good old BA computer system. My final trip with them, I hope. No, not in THAT way!

More weird weather is on the way, apparently. Not as hot, but twice as muggy. Probably thunderstorms too.
