No can do, Mike. I did it with tea (not that I drink tea these days, only green tea with honey) 50 years ago, but I cannot abide coffee without sweeteners of some sort. I stopped using sugar in coffee and switched to sweeteners a long time ago, but I do have a sweet tooth, and I'm trying to work around that. I've given up smoking, I've all-but iven up drinking, and sex has given me up, I've got to have one vice other than rock & roll. Also, Shredded Wheat with an unsweetened, plant-based, milk substitute, sounds as appetising as eating damp hay. How about Shredded wheat with blueberries, red grapes, walnuts, flax seeds, banana, strawberries and soya milk Raspberries maybe too Yummy, damp hay with fruit.

I shall keep experimenting with sweeteners. As I said, surely I'm allowed one vice, especially when, at 68, it's probably my last vice?

MartinT the Green Lemonade is still £11.88 for a pack of 24, but may go back to £17.00 soon(ish). At Sainsbury's prices that would work out at £18.00, or £21.00 for 24 cans next week when the offer has ended. smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07ZHJZBS6/Sour Cherry is currently £17.00, and I'm waiting for the next price drop.

Thanks. My problem is I buy three boxes of four (one of each flavour) and guzzle them in less than a week, they're so yummy. I will give up the orangeade as being the least special. The sour cherry and lemonade are very more-ish.
Not yet seen the cola or green lemonade.

I've settled on oat "milk" as my dairy milk substitute of choice, and blow me down if I didn't see an article today telling me that skimmed milk would be better for me. I only use it for my cereal, so they can stick their disgusting skimmed milk where the sun don't shine. I'm going through a few and so far Alpro Oat No Sugars is winning. It's not watery, has a pleasant oaty taste, and is one of the only versions I've found that does actually have zero sugar (or sweeteners) and added Calcium and vitamins, which is a deal-breaker. I've found it's very easy to get fooled if one takes these things at face value. For instance, " MOMA Unsweetened Oat Milk" sounds good, until you find out it actually contains 9.3g of sugar per serving. Next week I'm going to try Califia Farms Original, which has around 6-7g of sugar per serving, mainly because of the number of reviews I've read saying it's the best-tasting oat drink out there. To be honest though, it'll have to go some to beat the Alpro. Talking of cereal, I'm really quite enjoying my Shredded Wheat, and Weetabix, with some fresh fruit, and the oat milk. I thought I'd give these a go for a bit of variety next week, as they're low-sugar. www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/cheerios-vanilla-flavoured-os-360g I'm also ordering up some Sainsbury's Simply Muesli, which is their own-brand cheapo equivalent but has the advantage of having the lowest sugar content of all the muesli variants that they sell. Obviously, that's due, in large part, to the lack of fruit, but I can always add some fresh (or frozen) fruit of my own to make up for the lack of raisins etc. Mixed Chopped Nuts are another possibility, or a nut and seed mix, if I can find one that's suitable. It's quite an adventure, isn't it?

I don't have a problem with skimmed milk, but I only have it with cereal and rarely use it for anything else.
Ruth is still undecided between almond, soy and oat milk. We believe she is lactose intolerant so they have helped her a lot. I keep suggesting she drinks her tea black but it seems to be a step too far!

In terms of environmental impact oat milk is by far the least impactful.

After scouring Sainsbury's and Amazon for some sort of "topping" suitable for my muesli etc. I've decided it's easier just to make my own. I bag of mixed nuts - ordered, 1 bag of mixed seeds - ordered, and I've already got Goji berries from when I was making smoothies, which is another thing I'm now not supposed to eat/drink apparently, at least, not the fruity smoothies I was making. I've also just checked out Sainsbury's " Puffed Wheat" cereal (unsweetened) which is virtually sugar-free, so that's one for the future. Their "Daily's Corn Flakes" get a decent enough score, and they are quite a healthy option too. In fact, most of Sainsbury's "plain" cereals seem to be pretty healthy, sugar-wise. I could end up eating a lot of cereal.

It's not bad, it doesn't taste as good as normal Cheerios but at a quarter the sugar, it keeps my morning intake down. I have switched over to Sainsburys Bran Flakes (not Kelloggs). Much nicer in the mornings and gives me more roughage, so it's good for my colon.
