Morning Gentlemen, I may have missed any posts on this forum that discuss the pros/cons of Roon. I am obviously considering it and the possible equipment needed to implement its use. I am a Qobuz subscriber. As usual, I value your input. Thanks in advance, ‘Aubrey

Do you also use files? What player are you using Pros Well laid out and easy to use Cons You can access files and Qobuz by other means Costs
I think we have a few users but on the whole think most of us do not bother if you are just using Qobuz I really see no reason to use it.

I don’t have files per se. I ripped around 100 cd’s but I suspect most of the albums/songs are on Qobuz. I am using the ultraRendu streamer and the mconnect app on my iPad to get access to Qobuz. There’s probably a better app with more functionality than mconnect. I haven’t found a way to stream native Qobuz through the ultraRendu without using a third party app. Hence, the Roon question? Thanks for your response John.

I think Roon benefits from a high-quality GUI and cataloguing system and is oriented towards lifestyle multi-room systems.
For just Qobuz hi-res streaming, you don't need it. I use an ultraRendu network streamer and BubbleUPnP Android controller, for instance. You can also stream local or cloud-based files with this setup.

I'm also thinking of heading in the Roon direction. Bought an Intel Nuc for the Roon Core.
Have stored CDs, and some Hi Res. Will end up trying Qobuz.
The main reason is with the Project streamer I have , the interface is not that good. Roon is way better.
The other reason is Roon can be controlled by Mac, Apple, Android and Windows based systems. Which is what I have.

I have often been tempted by Roon, but so far have not implemented it anywhere. It's database and links are what attracts, but I can do that online anyway. I use an old Naim NDX as a streamer on the main system in Germany (although files and ripped CDs are the main source directly from Fidata server to the Lab12 DAC) which does not have an inbuilt interface for Qobuz. Like Martin, I use BubbleUPnP, but in my case installed on a NAS, to stream Qobuz. I use either Linn Kazoo or Lumin as the controller on an iPad.

I haven’t tried BubbleUPnP yet as I don’t know if it plays well in the iPad IOS world.
I do like the Roon display, links to a myriad of data etc. I can use mconnect with Qobuz buts it’s a very limited app for flexibility and ease of use.
As an aside, yesterday I connected the new ultraRendu and the Gustard U18. I tell you, the sound is just awesome. I played Paul Simon’s Graceland on the system and I was astounded.
I have a NUK and iMac, each just sitting around idling. I would install the Roon ROCK on one of those if I go that way.
When I bought the ultraRendu a couple days ago, I was given a few year of Roon subscription. But from what I’ve read, once people install and use it, there’s no going back?
I need to check out the Linn Kazoo or Lumin as the controller on an iPad.

One aspect of Roon that would be difficult for me to be without is the aggregation of metadata.
When exploring new music (or old) one can see specific information on an album or artist that adds significant perspective to broadening one's music horizons.
Tried a Roon trial 5+ years ago and almost immediately signed up for a lifetime subscription. I've been impressed with the number and frequency of updates that have occurred since.
If you have doubts that it's right for you, do the trial and see. Personally, I've been very happy with it.

I’m a data guy by nature and I see so many songs and albums discussed and recommended on this site alone that I will use the trial. If I may ask, which hardware are you using now for hosting the Roon system? Thanks, Aubrey Oh, please disregard question. I see on your profile that you’re using the NUK.

Hi Aubrey. I'm running Windows Server on a dedicated PC with music files stored on a redundant RAID array. Roonserver runs on this box. From there the connection runs through a Buffalo switch to fiber to an Uptone Etherregen reclocker. Finally, I use a Pentium NUC as a Roonbridge. I control everything wirelessly with a nice Samsung tablet that provides a remarkable image and microsecond response time.
Looking back, it was a bit of a chore to assemble the lot but well worth it in the end as the system is highly reliable and incredibly enjoyable to use day in, day out.
Good luck to you as you move forward...

I am about to add the PS Audio Stellar 3, again using all your experience to lead me in the right direction. It’s getting more dangerous to sneak all this into the house under the watchful eyes of SWMBO. BTW - I am a big fan of Rumpole!

Hah! The P3 is a superb addition to my system, driving all of my source components. As well as reducing noise and dramatically reducing source impedance, it brings consistency to the power supply regardless of what time of day or night I am listening.
We do make some particularly good drama, and some crap. As with the US!

Would be happy to help, Brett... there probably aren't any mistakes that I haven't made along the way but as Paul Rodgers is want to say "It's all right now".
