I've watched a number of analytical videos of how the building came to collapse. The poor techniques and consistent failure in maintenance and reading the warning signals comes through starkly.

The Miami Herald and contributors did a very good job.

As so often the problem was with the set up, initial construction. Later on with lack of maintenance
Both areas that are 'boring' and take up time when people could be doing 'real' work and earning money

I remember a few points that the building inspector told our builders to change in our refurb
Who knows what a crap job they would have gone for if they hadn't been aware the plans and work would be checked
