I thought this might be useful for those people buying their hi-fi gear on the secondhand market.
Some commonly used terms:
A few age related marks - No, no, no! The passage of time does not scar wood, metal or plastic. Clumsy bastard related marks perhaps. But age related? Piss off!
Absolutely mint condition - Looks OK from the angles I've photographed it from (in this darkened room). However, the rest of it is covered in scratches and there are bits hanging off.
Amplifire - Item has been tested and it has been found to have an electrical fault. There is also some soot on the melted circuit board.
Base - Bass
Bass - Base
Bargin (see also Bar Gin) - Where I was, and what I was drinking before I took the photos for this advert.
Condition commensurate with age - It's been really badly abused and one of the many previous owners was a gorilla.
Does not affect the sound quality in any way - The catastrophic damage that you can see can't be that bad because I plugged my iPod/iPod dock/PC into it and it made a noise.
High End - It was near the top of the pile of stuff in the skip.
If you're looking at this advert, I don't need to tell you about the item - I'm a lazy bastard and I can't be arsed to type anything at all about the thing I'm trying to sell. But I expect you to pay me more than it's worth.
It is with great regret that I'm selling my much loved....'component X' - I bought this knackered old piece of tat and couldn't make it work, but maybe you'll make the same mistake as me.
Intergrated - This word is an old favourite, but the definition is tricky. In order to understand it we have to break the word down into into its constituent parts. So let's take a look at the Oxford Dictionary:
Mint Condition - It doesn't rattle even though I dropped it a few times.
Rare - Common as muck.
Sorry, no remote but they're easy to find on Ebay - When I stole it, I had to leave in a hurry and my hands were full.
Untested - I have tested it, but it's knackered and won't ever work again but if I describe it like this I might get the price of a mint one.
All contributions to this valuable resource will be gratefully accepted.

- Inter - verb To place (a corpse) in a grave or tomb, typically with funeral rites e.g. he was interred beside his wife in the family's plot
- Grate - verb To make an unpleasant rasping sound e.g. the hinges of the door grated
- or To say something in a harsh tone
e.g. "How dare you!" he grated
