Marjan Mozetich. Violin Concerto "Affairs of the Heart". Canadian, born 1948 in Italy to Slovenian parents, the family moved to Canada while he was still a toddler. Starting off in avant garde circles, he later moved on and has now been labeled a post modern romantic. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marjan_MozetichThis violin concerto rather reminds me of an easy going, laidback Philip Glass. For me it's an easy, melodic and enjoyable listen. Quite emotional at times, in a heart on sleeve kind of way. I've had the CD for decades. I can't recall what put me onto it, probably a Gramophone review.

Thanks for another installment Jerry - you mention Philip Glass but I will try my best not to hold that against it!

You should be OK, it's not annoying in the way Glass can sometimes be.

I found this listenable in spite of the Philip Glass / BBC 2 drama soundtrack style meandering.
I wouldn't listen again though as it didn't connect with me on any emotional level and I've heard so many contemporary works in a similar vein - it's just too familiar.
I'd score a generous 3.

... BBC 2 drama soundtrack style meandering.. Hah, fair enough, I have no idea about that, never having watched or listened to that it doesn't bring those negative vibes for me.

.... and I've heard so many contemporary works in a similar vein... Fascinating, we clearly listen to very different things. The Glass similarity was the only one that came to mind for me. I dont recall hearing anything else similar.

From the first notes, the 'circular' looping slowly progressing style of Glass is obvious and this instantly perked up my attention. The progression is nicely done and so is the orchestration. 4/5.

I'm going to have to use the "N" word, sorry: Nyman. It reminds me more of Michael Nyman's soundtrack work than it does of Glass, or anyone else. I quite like a lot of Michael Nyman's work though, so a solid 4/ 5 from me.

I've just played it all the way through, and I enjoyed the rest of the album too, jandl100 . Thanks for choosing it.
