Rickie Lee Jones - Girl at Her Volcano
I had her albums Pirates, The Magazine and Flying Cowboys. Were favourites in the late 80s.
Not sure when I found 'Girl at Her Volcano.' Later on I remember finding the CD of this at a library and excitedly copying it. My copy was MP3 previously.
An essential late night listen, with low lighting and a whiskey on the rocks.

Great choice, Brett. I love those early albums and this EP. Her cover of Under the Boardwalk is stunning in her freestyle Californian delivery.

RLJ is one of those artists lucky enough to have attracted great recorded quality for her music. That certainly holds true for her first two albums (eponymous and Pirates), this EP and some of her later albums. It goes well with her kooky personality and lazy delivery with barely any enunciation.
The stand out track for me is her cover of Under the Boardwalk. Performed in her favourite ensemble semi-live style (see also Woody and Dutch on the Pirates album, another cracker), it's a winner and her band are certainly no slouches, either. Outstanding all round and with dynamics to die for, it's a classic feel-good performance and she does love playing with the audience.
I owned the 10" EP for many years and it was never far from my turntable. The Qobuz version has extra tracks.
An easy 5/5 from me.

No, sorry, not for me. There is so much I don't like about this album. 113/4 out of 62.91

Not quite sure what to make of this, but it's growing on me; would definitely like to listen again on the main system or good headphones.
I don't think it would be a regular listen for me, but can certainly see the appeal and why it would make a good late night whisky and headphones session. The quality of performance and composition is self-evident - I'm sure I would enjoy a live concert in a suitably bijou venue.
The only song I didn't particularly like is Under the Boardwalk which I have never enjoyed - although this is an obvious improvement it also reminds me of Bruce Willis at his most irritating in the 80's ... Lol.
I'm thinking 3.5 so will go for a 4.

I know this one very well as I have the 10" EP and am a Ricckie Lee Jones fan. It is a 4/5 from me, mainly because it is a slightly eclectic mix of songs, the majority of which are preformed superbly but the odd one she goes over the top IMO so a 4/5 from me.

I have been waiting for an opportunity to listen to this properly and had not heard the 'extended' version from Qobuz before. I too am a huge fan of Ms Jones and her first album (in LP form at least) is rarely far from the system. I enjoyed this hugely (even at the crack of dawn rather than midnight) and it is now on its second run through. A resounding 62.9145 from me.
