Hello,
I have a pair of Tannoy Devons, I am considering a pair of used Harbeth Super HL5 Plus speakers. Unfortunately, I cannot compare them via-a-vis.
I would like to hear an unbiased opinion from forum members who have listened to them extensively.
Cheers,

I've heard both.
It's always a matter of opinion, and people's preferences differ a lot, but I would find the Harbeths more open, tonally neutral and natural sounding.
For acoustic (non electronic) music, I'd choose the Harbeths.
But Tannoys are better at moving large amounts of air, they are more dynamic and capable of sounding more powerful. They make the Harbeths sound a bit tame and unexciting.
Personally, I wouldn't choose either! So take my opinions with a big pinch of salt! Speaker choice is very much down to personal preference.

My personal favourite Harbeth speaker is the P3ESR, a small standmount. It's the only one in the lineup I'd be prepared to countenance actually owning.
It has all of the neutrality of the larger models, but freer dynamics and truly excellent soundstaging.
I view with deep suspicion the thin wall cabinet design of Harbeths, I strongly suspect it of absorbing part of the motion of the drivers. This ties in well with my own observation that the larger the Harbeth the more boring it becomes.
The small P3ESR, of course, has quite a rigid enclosure because of its small size, despite the thin wall design.

I've never heard a pair of Harbeth speakers - they seem to have an almost cult like following from what I've seen which has always put me off the brand tbh.

The P3ESR commands a better price than the HL5 in the used market. There are several used 5HLs for sale for less than fifty percent of the retail price and still do not move, some have been over six months on the market.
