Well worth listening to John Hiatt's albums
I'm working my way through the CDs I have, first time I've played them through all together. Chronological order of course !
Sampled all of his albums over some years and decided not to buy a few, around 20% of his output. Wondering if my tastes have changed as he sounds better than I remember, could be due to system upgrades
First one I have from his large discography Warming up to the Ice Age Couple of steps up from where I remember and all albums seem that much better, well made, especially the live ones where there is value in the different versions of the same tracks on studio albums
Master of Disaster is on the way as that sampled much better than I remember

Allmusic has this to sayOne of the best and most respected songwriters of his generation, John Hiatt was a hero among critics and his fellow musicians long before a larger audience discovered his work as a recording artist. Known for lyrics that can turn from acidic wit to bitter self-examination at a moment's notice, Hiatt's work is also dominated by strong, engaging melodies that take rock and blues tropes and reshape them into fresh sounds and the sharp but thoughtful report of his voice. Hiatt's songs have been covered by everyone from Bonnie Raitt, Ronnie Milsap, and Dr. Feelgood to Iggy Pop, Three Dog Night, and the Neville Brothers, and the eclecticism of that list is reflected in Hiatt's own catalog of recordings, which find him exploring folk, rock, pop, R&B, country, and blues influences with equal vigor. Hiatt's finest album is 1987's rootsy and unguarded Bring the Family; other catalog highlights include the pop and rock of 1983's Riding with the King, the rough-hewn blues-rock of 2008's Same Old Man, and 2021's Leftover Feelings, a collaboration with dobro virtuoso Jerry Douglas.. - more on link

For the sake of completeness I listened to the man's first few albums Hangin' Around the Observatory Overcoats Slug Line Two Bit Monsters All of a Sudden Still don't like them Very reminiscent of Elvis Costello who I don't like at all Riding with the King almost makes it but not enough for me Crossing Muddy Waters - previously not convinced, changed my mind and that's on the way Currently playing Walk on Fantastic album YouTube music

Bring the Family and Stolen moments are classics, I discovered him in 88’ and have a few of his. Dirty Jeans And Mudslide Hymns a later offering from 2011 is also great.

Two recent arrivals
Master of Disaster which I grabbed on SACD ! Brilliant A good, typical Hiatt album and no worse for that. Average quality, expected more from SACD
Ah well back to a normal CD Crossing Muddy Waters What a staggeringly good recording. Give it a go

Back on the Hiatt trail
A game for us all to play See if you know your geetarr players that well
Hiatt has many different guitar players on his albums Back on the Hiatt trail I have tasked myself with guessing who they are, from listening
Will post the answers later
So far Warming Up to the Ice Age - Wrong. Bring the Family - Right. That was easy Slow Turning - Right. Quite easy
Later Stolen Moments Perfectly Good Guitar Hiatt Comes Alive at Budokan? Walk On Little Head Rollin' into Memphis: Songs of John Hiatt Crossing Muddy Waters The Tiki Bar Is Open Beneath This Gruff Exterior Master of Disaster Same Old Man The Open Road Dirty Jeans and Mudslide Hymns Mystic Pinball Terms of My Surrender The Eclipse Sessions Leftover Feelings

Reminding myself that Hiatt's live albums really are worth having Definitely different to the studio recorded tracks and well recorded
So often live albums are poor rehashes of studio tracks. Not so with Mr.Hiatt

The guy I listened to the most on Radio when growing up was Adam Carolla. That was like a father to me, along with his partner Dr. Drew Pinsky.
Adam's favorite artist is John Hiatt.
For years I thought it was "its a slow journey"...lol. no. It's A Slow Turning.
Great voice. Great songwriter.
