Yes, I think you're getting the 30s clips rather than full songs. Qobuz is worth paying for, you might want to think about it.

Well I got the U18 back from Martin
First experiment is using my Samsung Tablet via a USB adapter (USB C male to USB B female) and a cheap Gustard USB cable that has come with the U18. I am using USB audio pro to allow the tablet to output as a server. I initially made sure it would work. Better than my windows based Tablet but still a bit harsh,
With the AES output on the U18 more resolution treble tidied up a bit more but still a hint of harshness which I am sure is the cable and adapter.
With I2s treble is cleaned up but with most of the rock I listen too a bit to forward for me.
I have a microrendhu to try out on Sunday but to be honest I am dreading going back to this as know I will then need to heck of a lot work to my digital system and do not want the extra complexity this brings but will give it a go.
At a later stage I might add a good USB C to B cable
At this stage I still prefer Bluetooth but the Tablet has more potential via USB if I can cure the the treble

Treble harshness is the enemy of good digital resolution. I fought a 2-year battle with it so I know it well and sympathise.
Things to pay attention to are noise reduction at every stage:
- power quality, power cables, power supplies, fuses (try inexpensive AMR Gold for calmness)
- separate grounding boxes, not shared
- supports and weights
- digital cable quality, USB isolation
- external clock (later)
I know you know these things, John. Just memory joggers. You've now heard your U18 in my system so you have a target to aim for.

Some minor update, new USB lead has arrived from Gothic Audio, it's a the Outsider and 0.3m.
Will report back later tomorrow.

That's the one l am patiencely waiting for..... Got good reviews on Head,and in all honesty, looks like some thought has gone into it. I was impressed that the supplier took the time to ask me what DDC and DAC I'm using. There are different configurations of I2S cable and he made sure to send me the right one. Some of these small Chinese vendors are really into good customer service. |

Will do Martin, l expecting it to be a bit bright to start with, as its a all silver wire design, but l read good comments on the net, on the positive side l should have my I2S this week.

Been using the Outsider USB for around five hours, as predicted, a bit bright, average sounding, after a few hours, it started to open up a bit, early days, l think thus will take many hours of running in,so on the fence at the moment.

Understandable, I have slowly moved away from silver cables because of the brightness problems.

Giving them time seems to the key with silver, at least my experience in the past, played a few bright grating tracks, troublesome albums,it was hard work, of course well produced artist like Dire Straits Love Over Gold sounded great, l well give it 2 weeks,and swapped it back over for the Lindy and compare then.
