Michelle Shocked - she made what I believe is one of the best albums of the 1980s: 'Short Sharp Shocked'. The first album to feature her was touted as being remarkable, authentic, ground breaking etc etc. Its USP was that it was famously recorded on a Sony Walkman Professional cassette player and the performance was an outdoor gathering of a few people. It sold well and got her name known but the truth is, it was released without her consent. When she negotiated a recording contract, they offered her an advance, which she refused in favour of retaining the master recordings and the publishing rights. Three albums followed and, later she created her own label. This is a short read and it chronicles her relationship with the music industry. I urge you to read it. It's an intersting article, and she's an interesting but divisive character. I won't crap all over your post but here's a link that's worth a look. www.grunge.com/390773/the-comment-that-destroyed-michelle-shockeds-career/The oddest thing is, whatever she said at the gig was apparently backed up by an audio recording made at the time, so she was being bootlegged. See Wikipedia.

I bought that album and loved it. I also had Texas Campfire Tapes, which came first, both on LP. Look at those prices now!!

Got the CD single Anchorage, and was impressed with both the music and sound quality. Got the LP and remember it being reviewed in Hi Fi Answers. Some years later got the 10" single of Anchorage. Then the 2 CD set. Must admit, I was a bit surprised when I saw the hoo-haw about her on YouTube.
