I may be one of the few heading off on a holiday for summer (although 15ºC sounds pretty good Mike for Dec 31st).
Out the door in a couple of days. Tent packed, and keen to get away.
South Island of New Zealand. The 'length and back' of the island in 21 days. Some tenting at DOC campsites; a toilet and running water only. Four days tramping (hiking?) the Milford Track. One luxurious evening at The Hermitage (Mt Cook). Get to visit the mining disaster where my great great grandfather died, having immigrated from Kilmarnock in the late 1800s. And visiting a few places I've always wanted to go to.
Music loaded onto my phone (if needed). Dusted off an old pair of Grado SR60 headphones. Books to read. Walks to partake in. Simple camping fare. And although the country has opened up, hoping the o stays away.

Sounds amazing. Do you know of the kind of wildlife you might encounter there? Have a great trip!
Btw those Grado sr60 headphones are a gem classic. I had the 60, 225 and 325. And heard many others. Scrubbed all of them and only kept the sr60. The others at $500 and up only decline in value for money. The sr60 at $80 is one of the elite values in all of audio.

That sounds great, Brett. Very jealous. We're having a couple of days away soon, with a photography trip to a spot not that far away really, but closer to the landscape we want to be in for our early morning starts.

Maybe some kaka, kea, and kakapo. I used to sell Grado headphones. Ended up selling over 300 pair. Sold them anywhere in the world quite a bit cheaper than anyone else. So still have my own pair of SR60, SR80, SR325 and RS1.

Beautiful, man. Not sure if this is the section for it here but would love to hear what you thought if the RS1 in general and with whichever gear you think it played best with.

The Milford Track is one of New Zealand's 'Great Walks.' Tickets (max 40 people per day) sold out within minutes. My cousin has missed out four years in a row. Not quite sure how I managed to get in. Four days tramping, approx 55km. Boat in, and boat out.

I flicked in and out of headphones. Used the RS1 as portables for a while! Even have the Grado headphone amp RA1 somewhere. May need to revisit that again. Has been near 15 years since I used it.
Because the RS1 are open, not able to use them at home as much as I wanted. Plus at the time my gear was pretty simple in its resolution. Usually alternated between a modded pair of Sennheiser HD25-1 and the RS1.
The pads ended up hurting your ears after an hour. I remember that. As for the sound? Haven't used them for quite a bit. Had to get them home from work a couple of weeks ago. They were buried in a box on a shelf. But do remember I loved their sound. A richer, deeper sound than the SR80 and SR325. Quite well balanced. Are a headphone I won't be getting rid of. Will end up nestling in a chair in the corner with a blanket over me, flicking through my music.

I think just a holiday somewhere in Britain for us this year. It's too early to make plans to fly anywhere. Like Chris, we hatched all manner of plans abroad but it just can't happen at the moment.

It sounds like an outstanding trip Brett. I have always wanted to go to the South Island as have only been to the North and whilst I was there just for work had an outstanding time. Hoping to take my family on a fly-drive to the South sometime.

Thank you for the RS1 write up Brett. I tried many Grados and what I liked best was either the RS2e or RS1, though can't actually remember which was which. May have another chance though.

We've just booked our holiday to Lake Bled, Slovenia, for July this year. We chose somewhere that neither of us had been to before and wanted to do without a car. It's only 30 mins from Ljubljana airport, so shuttle booked and we shall thereafter use our feet. Lots of chilling around the town and hiking. The spa hotel should keep us relaxed. Very much looking forward to it.

That looks beautiful Martin. I was told by Mischa just the other day that we have had 5 foreign trips in the last 12 months. Two trips to Kefalonia, one each to Oslo, Berlin and Madeira. We are apparently making up for not being able to do it at all for 3 years!

You have done well. We stayed in the UK during the pandemic but have otherwise travelled abroad at least once every year.

Booking a multi-stop round flight online is no easy task. I wanted to book LHR (London) to IAH (Houston) to ATL (Atlanta) and back to LHR for April next year. I tried Expedia, Booking.com, Skyscanner and Globehunters. My son and I wanted the first leg of our travel together on the same flight while the rest of our trips are different. Every search that my son and I did online elicited non-direct flights or a very expensive leg (e.g. >£6,000 total) or outrageous additional costs for baggage. Because, of course you're going to take a 10-hour flight without any baggage.
After hours of this, we were about to give up and book each leg separately when Globehunters called my son, and then me. The difference a person makes with a complex booking like this was instantly apparent. A guy called Mark handled both of our trips personally and got us on flights that hadn't shown in our searches, and certainly not together.
The result is that we got our bookings sorted and at tolerable cost. I even got a surprise middle leg First Class seat in the deal.
Strongly recommend Globehunters for flights - and call them, rather than search online.
