I'm willing to bet cash it won't be your last Martin! I really have no strong feelings one way or the other. Right now, it does exactly what I want and doesn't appear to be the bottleneck in performance. Nothing does, which is another way of saying that the system is well balanced. If I unbalance it, I would have to look at replacing everything. Right now, I'm happy.

This is how I feel about my system; it just balanced musical and addictive

Part of the fun of this hifi lark for me is that at some unknown point in time something new (or old sometimes) will come along and capture the imagination - a musical journey!

To leave it alone.
Last year i altered the 15" fane sealed box speakers to aperiodic slot loaded instead which im happy with
I had to get a new cd player (ended up with a cyrus cd7 for reasonably sensible money) as the old delta transport became just too finicky.
Gave the topping dac and linear supply i was using with it to my dad. The cyrus works fine and sounds ok so it will do. I have an mf m1 dac to faff with if i want to but i see no need.
The pass f5 and b1 are not going anywhere, i havent heard anything over the last few years that is substantially better so that will be left well alone.
The cole lcr phono stage was fixed last year, its staying, nothing ive heard has been substantially better. Id have to spend thousands. So no.
I finished development work on the arm i designed last year, only took 5 years, and im very happy with how it sounds, so im onto finishing work to see if its viable to become a product that people might want.
Ive got a ton of bits, r2r machines, amps, turntables, arms, carts, speakers ect hanging about so i should really sell them off as i could do with uprading my lathe to a newer model.
So pragmatic plans, leave it alone, and use it as both a static test rig and entertainment, and sell off the other various bits to enable me to upgrade the machine tools i have

Interesting. What lathe do you have and what do you fancy upgrading to?

Its an old md65. Something with the same capabilities in a similarly compact package is alot of money. The equivalent proxxon is over 2 grand.....

These are more desires than solid plans:
- Townshend podiums for speakers - Fettle DAC and amps - Try silver transformer version of my MFA preamp - Experiment with grounding - Experiment with upgraded clocking for DAC

For me now, it's mostly distant plans around possibly improving the crossovers in my Usher speakers - there are a couple of US companies selling upgraded ones. Then just an idea for possibly upgrading my P10 regenerator to a P15. There is nothing urgent really so it's likely to be a year of small tweaks. Take them active🙂

I would only consider doing it in the digital domain and that would require the crossover, three DACs and three power amps. I sense that complexity would lose what I have now, compared with trying to improve the already very good speaker crossovers.

I don't plan doing anything - hehe
Same as 2021! That went by the wayside and I got into Le Cleach horn creation, improving the I2S signal path, crossover points and driver toe in.
Who knows what is in store.

I sense that complexity would lose what I have now, compared with trying to improve the already very good speaker crossovers. An amp for each driver pair, chosen for just that task is compelling. The benefit to be had, of course depends on implementation. Passives, no matter how good sap a bit. Most noticeable if you have drivers of unequal efficiency, and have to L-Pad of course - I doubt you have that. Leave well alone 🙂

Yes, I agree, as the most important input to the digital crossovers would be the individual driver responses, Q and sensitivity. Getting them from Usher I suspect would be impossible.
No, I will definitely leave well alone unless I can buy a better analogue crossover.

If I had the space I'd love to install a lathe and a mill. If only I had one of those basement workshops that American youtubers tend to have, then it would have some woodworking gear as well.

Nope definitely doesnt suit the budget, lovely machine though
Problem i have with the 65 is that the bushes are shot on the intermediate pulley which is the one on the tensioner axle meaning that running 1000 and 2000 rpm is not a good idea. Which makes it difficult to get a good surface finish on aluminium and brass when 500rpm is the speed i can get out of it without it trying to jump off the bench I could punch out the bushes and fit new oilites, but the tensioner axle is not in the best condition either, and whoever had it before me modified the pulley where the circlip was and now isnt. Really it needs the arse end of it taking apart and rebuilding with a new tensioner and pulley

Is that a possibility? Maybe cobble in a (round) belt directly from the motor to the spindle to allow you to machine a new idler shaft?

I would like to learn more about electronics and amplifiers in particular. I am not starting at zero as I can already solder and have some of the kit: multimeter, oscilloscope, wave generator. Here is one that my son got for Xmas: Science MAD Circuit Lab. It has all sorts of sensors and transistors and circuit examples to explain it all. My ambition is to become accomplished at understanding electronic circuits and do basic fault finding / repair. It makes me really sad to toss broken electronic equipment in the bin. My first success was repairing a broken hairdryer. Another project for 2022 is to recap my Philips 22AH280 preamp.

I've thought of one!
Use the spare Najda DSP controller I got just in case... dedicated to the bass channel and implement FIR room correction, just to see. FIR bass uses lots of processor power. Might have to limit the number of taps, even with a dedicated Najda doing nothing else! The other Najda would do the other 4 channels as is.
This project has got me a bit fired up.
Najda night not be powerful enough even dedicated. Jriver / PC on bass channel ID another alternative.
Lots to learn and configure!
Need to start reading up!
As the punk said to Dirty Harry "I gots to know"😄

I was given a basic Oscilloscope years ago as a birthday present and have always intended to learn how to use it. I have a basic knowledge of circuits and have built stuff P2P from ciruit diagrams in Elektor and other sources online. I have been mostly succesful building and upgrading stuff and fixing some that had problems, but it would be nice to fault find seeing what others post of their wave forms on sites like Diyaudio. I must dig it out!
