Yes it's that time of year again to ask what hifi plans you have for next year? Please, no answers along the lines of "my system is sorted" or "it's all about the music" etc 
Having recently bought a new DAC my main objective is to nail a preamp that I can live with for some time. Speakers, power amp and DAC will stay the same I'm sure. I could be persuaded to try a different streamer but only if something interesting and affordable comes along - I'm still amazed by what the humble Tinkerboard S can deliver. |

For me now, it's mostly distant plans around possibly improving the crossovers in my Usher speakers - there are a couple of US companies selling upgraded ones. Then just an idea for possibly upgrading my P10 regenerator to a P15. There is nothing urgent really so it's likely to be a year of small tweaks.

I remember doing this last year and basically did a complete system upgrade with a journey I never imagined
I love to hear a r2r DAC in my system just to know if for me or not. Nothing wrong with what I got, just a itch that I might scratch.
I sometimes wonder about the Bantam could I improve. I really like what it does and along with the Behringer and Bass drivers the bits of my system that has not changed
I am not sure what to do

Firstly, get it up and running again. Listen to all the pieces I have added:
Linear power supply for modem and wifi router (Meicord Opal ethernet cable), TPLink RE650 Wifi Extender, Meicord Opal, Project Stream Box 2 Ultra, 15v linear power supply, LKS MH-DA004 Dac, SR Purple fuses for amp and Dac, Black Ravioli Big Pads to Dac, Akiko Audio USB Tuning Stick, recapped amp.
Then add some bits I had lying around at work:
M2Tech HiFace Evo 2, Evo Clock, Evo Supply, 2 x Black Cat Silverstar coax between them, linear power supply feeding the Evo Supply, and Mad Scientist Black Magic USB.

So above are not really plans for 2022. They are finishing 2021 plans.
The 2022 plans include:
A modded network switch (adding one of my linear power supplies to it); possibly a Cisco 2960 from AudioPhool.
Upgrade DC cables from power supplies.
Then possibly:
A sprinkling of Black Ravioli Pads.
A second grounding box (if space).
Upgrade wifi router to Fidelizer AirStream?
Subscribe to Qobuz or Tidal.

As I lost my hearing in one ear over two days last month (SSHL), whilst some has returned it sounds like Donald Duck so I reckon my Hi-Fi days are over…..

Know the feeling. very unpleasant and disconcerting
My ear blocked and lost hearing in my left ear
Then the infection was very painful
Go and see the doc and have it looked at

Yes - done that and ended up at UCH. Had two intratympanic steroid injections (not much fun) + now on the hearing aid list.

I am pretty happy with the current vinyl setup, I think any improvement would require a serious amount of spend on the TT/Cartridge front and I doubt the improvement would be cost justified, certainly not to SWMBO especially as we are just about to order a new car.
I am currently using the Audiolab 8300CDQ CDP/DAC/Pre as the pre-amplifier. I am very impressed with how it performs overall in every aspect, the pre-amp side seems very neutral. Having recently upgraded to an AudioValve Sunilda phono stage, a great move, I might see what a dedicated pre-amp in the system might bring, but that will definitely be done with home trials. Once again any improvement would need to be very good in relation to VFM, so I suspect this will be in the future.
I am still playing around with the Digital side, I have trialed Roon with Tidal and Qobuz then went back to Audivarna, but have ended up going back to Roon and subscribing to it and Qobuz, SWMBO just about puts up with the £22/mnth subs for them. I am considering going to some form of dedicated Roon streamer but this will be limited carefully by budget as I still mainly listen to vinyl.
I have tried various digital streaming feeds over the last few months and to be honest comparing them all back to back using known hi-res feeds I have found it quite difficult to justify a large spend, maybe its my ears. Having said that I have found some subtle improvements in detail and spaciousness going up the the digital equipment ladder, but nothing to justify a big outlay for me. So some digital bits and bobs may come up for grabs once I have worked out where I am going with this one.

Thinking a bit deeper about this, my wish would be to find an R2R DAC with both balanced and RCA outs and a Bluetooth receiver, but it doesn't seem to exist 🤪
