I thought to myself, " What's the sort of music people dislike the most, after Christmas music that is?" Why, " Country Music," I answered myself, giving me a look of astonishment because I even needed to ask. " A Country Christmas album would be just perfect for the lads to enjoy," I continued, inside the dark and dusty confines of my own head, knowing that the reverse was actually true. I bought this album recently, having a couple of their albums already, and it didn't disappoint. The fact that it's a holiday record is almost incidental, so you can, if you like, just hate it for being Country. Pistol Annies are Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe, and Angaleena Presley. They are all singer/songwriters in their own rights and got together in 2011 for the Academy of Country Music's Girls' Night Out: Superstar Women of Country. Their voices mesh perfectly and it sounds like they've been singing together since they were kids, and as well as appearing with John Fogerty and Blake Shelton, they recorded the track " Come All Ye Fair and Tender Ladies" on the 2012 album Voice of Ages by The Chieftains. Their own music was featured on the soundtrack album The Hunger Games: Songs from District 12 and Beyond. In 2017, the Annies recorded a cover of the song " Tulsa Time" which appeared on the Don Williams tribute album, Gentle Giants: The Songs of Don Williams. Ten of the tracks on this album are Anniess originals, plus their takes on three standard classics, including “ Sleigh Ride,” Merle Haggard’s “ If We Make it Through December,” plus a reimagined “ Auld Lang Syne”. So, there you go. Christmas Country with the Annies' trademark side of humour. I'd say " I hope y'all enjoy it," but you probably won't.

For me my utmost worst style of music is Irish Country Music. Music that no matter how cheerful I feel makes me think life has lost all meaning. Plenty of music I dislike but this is the only music that makes me think death is preferable.

I agree with you about Irish Country, John, at least the stuff we get spoon-fed by the mainstream record companies. It's so bloody sterile, it's like every ounce of *real* emotion gets leached out of it before they release it, and then it's injected with saccharine. These girls are the real deal though.

OMG Paul, I will have had to go and find the bucket in preparation to listen to it. I hope it lives up to the description you have given.
I am ready to be shocked into some sort a of mind state.

OK so I did not need the bucket after all! I was rather pleasantly surprised by this, it is well produced and the girls certainly can sing in harmony, I rather liked the tongue in cheekiness of some of the songs. For a Christmas album it's quite impressive that only 3 tracks are covers and the rest written by themselves. So it got an overall 4/5 from me for entertainment value.

Just horrendous - I hope I recover in time for Xmas after this mercifully short aural desecration. Merry Christmas!

Good drum intro and very good recorded quality. I fear, though, that I can only stand one song or two. Tell you what, I'll try it on the family on Christmas day. The harmony singing is good. This'll be right up Mike's street Almost Humbug but I'll give it a generous 3/5.

All I can say is, I didn't expect anyone to like it. I thought maybe Tim might if he was around, but I'm pleasantly surprised that not all of you hated it. It was *almost* a joke choice on my part, and as I said Christmas music and country? Not exactly everyone's favourite genres, and if one don't get ya, t'other'n will. Have a Hell of a Holiday, folks.

Thanks Paul. I'm about to download their whole Hi Res catalogue.
On second thoughts, yeh, nah. Think I'll give this a miss on Christmas Day. A good joke though.

Apart from it being Country, 'that sort' of female vocal, y'all and a Christmas album it's, er, not for me
