Are two dogs compared to one?
A friend has offered me these two cute male puppies. The mother has a calm temperament, but I am not sure if I should just take one or both.
I work full time, as does Mrs. H, so they will mainly live outside in the garden (2 acres grass + woodland). Two means that they will keep each other company, but also double the costs. What would you do?

Personally, I would avoid pets if both partners work full time.

Hmmm...depends how your work times fit in with each other. I'm kind of with pre65 here and would avoid it. As for the 2 dogs together I'm not sure. I've only ever had 1 dog at a time. Tough decision but as there's doubt avoid it.

'Fraid that's another no vote.
2 dogs are easier than one to leave - we have 2 and can leave them outside for long periods if we want to. However, 95% of the time someone (usually me) is at home. Moreover, we were at home all the time for the critical first few weeks while they settle in. You can leave dogs - but you need to be able to be at home with them until they are settled and learn the routine. Critically, they need to learn that when you leave them - you will be coming back.
And whilst 2 dogs keep each other company, and are easier because you can leave them, they are harder to take with you when you want to! And cost twice as much.
But critically, most experienced dog owners would advise if you are going to have 2 dogs have a dog and a bitch - not 2 of the same sex, unless you are VERY experienced. And in particular not 2 of the same sex from the same litter. My ex-father in law had " GS dogs from the same litter (Bill and Ben) and whilst they were lovely most of the time, would occaisionally get in a real fight with each other for dominance, which took a bit of handling.

I'd go for two, says the bloke with 5.
Leaving them all day is not perfect. How many hours and how old are they ?

Thanks guys. I was unsure about the reality and I also don't think it will be a good idea now. The timing is wrong.

I still have three weeks holiday left, so would have taken a week to help settle the little guys in, but I think I will leave these alone, unless they can't find a home elsewhere. Apparently Labrador/Border collie/setter mix, so they may be prone to running away. Living next to a road where at peak times traffic passes quick, Imcan't take that chance.

Where are you roughly ?
My mate Mick (Doghouse) is in southerly parts of France, can't remember exactly where. He may be persuaded
