I am having a few problems at the moment. I get a bit obsessed with different things at times. Lately it has been my diy hifi, especially speakers. I never seem to be satisfied with it. Frantic changes occur on a weekly basis. I am getting a bit cheesed off with this. My mind has truly become a vast wasteland.
I have been listening a lot at home by streaming via tablet to my JBL charge5 Bluetooth speaker. It has been the best thing I have ever bought. I just enjoy the music and forget about my crappy homemade junk.
Is it a bit extreme to chuck the system in my skip and just keep the JBL? I often feel like doing it and then talk myself out of it. The situation is getting to boiling point.

As someone who is a fully paid up obsessive I can certainly empathize with what you are saying.
My system has often been the focus of this. Tinkering with it in some way can often be indicative of my state of mind at the time. And if it's not working as I want that can have an impact on me. But over the pandemic period I have had very little access to my system and can often find myself listening to music on my phone. The lowest possible sound quality but it doesn't stop me enjoying the music and there is no expectation of how good it must sound and I can relax with it because of that ...

Mothball the DIY ... Out of sight if at all feasable, kick back , enjoy the hastle free toons and perhaps after a sabbatical away from the DIY may be in a better frame of mind to return to the DIY scene OR have become even more certain that you want to see it gone.

I agree with others here. Focus on the music, research a few fave artists and follow them down rabbit holes. Don't think about SQ or DIY for a while.

I would agree as others have said, over the past 40 years I have gone round in circles (not DIYing hifi) but changing this component with another only to then change another and so, until I became frustrated enough to just stop and listen. I have gone through this process 3 times and on each occasion have been chasing my own tail in ever decreasing circles and wasted a ton of money, listening time, and got a load of stress.
Event quite recently I changed my main amp, albeit after some fundamental research and asking serval others if I was taking the right course, and it worked. And right know I am enjoying a pair of very cheaply acquired Transmission Line speakers, which I will fettle cosmetically. But most I my time is skiing and listening to the music, not the gear(HiFi).
So just sit back relax and put on your favourite tracks and enjoy them.

Everyone else has already said it, Stu, the music is, ultimately, the reason we bugger about with boxes of wires and even more arcane stuff. If it sounds good enough to enjoy then that's good enough, mate. Hobbies are things we do for fun, like your drumming, they should elevate our enjoyment, take us to a " better" place.., not drag us down. When they start doing that it's time for a break. Play that funky music white boy Play that funky music right

All good advice fellas. Fortunately I see the end of my speaker journey just around the corner. After that is done I am having a break from diy. Then I have to sort out my electronics and something to put it in. It never ends.

Nothing changed here, still no inclination to start diy experiments again. It's a bit sad really because beneath all the unhealthy obsession I do enjoy discovering new things. As someone who hangs around with musicians a lot ( a drummer) I never lost sight of the music. The funny thing is I have enjoyed it just as much (if not more at times) simply streaming the free version of YouTube music to a JBL charge5 Bluetooth speaker. My wife thought I said JML when I first mentioned it It's probably only mp3 quality so not to tidal or similar quality. I don't see a reason why I wouldn't be happy going forward with the JBL and mp3 quality streaming. Except no vinyl. This may be a pothole in the road along my journey or possibly this pothole has caused me to crash the car and it is the end of the journey. Since coming out of my hs2 depression I don't feel the need to be bothered about the small differences between equipment and components. I think I created this obsession to stop me having to think about all the shit in my life. The loss of hs2 worry has enabled me to focus more on the crap that really matters like my mother and sister who both have dementia. Whatever happens I refuse to obsess about the hifi anymore.

Good to hear you doing better in yourself Stu. I have a good friend who goes through similar issues around HIFI system and for the first time ever I think he is at peace with his system.
