Arbouretum , an American Alt Rock band , I'd never heard of them until a few months ago when a random track was playing on Spotify caught my attention , I liked the vocals , it's always the same with me a distinctive singer catches my ear . Googling the band revealed a new album in 2020 , their tenth "Let it All in" . I've been playing it ever since and have now bought it on vinyl , very rare for me to buy a recent release so it's an album worthy to share . The vocals are quite monotone at times and some tracks appear a bit same-y at first but it can definitely be described as a grower . Unfortunately it's only on Spotify and YouTube , I think one or two tracks are on other streaming services .

Gosh, that's a very promising opening track. I'll listen to more later on the 'big rig'.

What an excellent discovery and a great choice, thank you Barrington.
I thought they might be Midlake-ish but these guys have their own distinctive folk rock sound. The stripped down vibe initially sounds quite simplistic but then you start to notice more details than at first might appear. Gently hypnotic.
eg How Deep it Goes - a very pleasant rocker and then the dual guitars just take it to another place - fantastic.
I really like the harder rocking 11'48" title track with a rather epic guitar workout.
An easy 4/5.

It opens so well, How Deep It Goes is great and promises much from the rest of the album. It has a nice vibe with good ensemble singing. Disappointingly, the rest doesn't deliver to as high a level. I think I don't like the solo voice as much - yes, that's it.
3/5 for the opener.

I thought the same as Jules to start with; a bit Midlake-ish, then I thought they were a bit Fleet Foxes, but I ended up thinking they were nowhere near the equals of either, and were a bit underwhelming. There were some good musical ideas, let down by poor arrangements and rather boring guitar playing. I did actually like the vocalist's voice though. A generous '3' for me.

I finished listening to this and have been putting my thoughts together over lunch.
It is a bit of and oddity as far as I am concerned, they are obviously good musicians, and the album is well mixed, however the songs have a very similar feel and sound a bit monotonous not really going anywhere. That may sound a bit harsh but there was no real high point for me. The title track I found quite frustrating, a bit of a rocker but it was again a rather drone sounding number, and then I realised it seemed reminiscent of several Doors numbers but not done as well, and then toward the end the fast repeating rhythms had tinges of Hawkwind (a band I particularly like), I am not adverse to repeating patterns in music but unless it rises and falls and is puntuated with other interesting and unexpected accents it can rapidly become quite boring.
So for me that sums it up and a sad 2/5, sorry Barry.

Reminds me of Crazy Horse and some folk bands
Voice is a barrier for me. Music just about there
